Vanished article - ECC bad employers?

Genuinely curious | 19.07.2013 18:44 | Indymedia | Workers' Movements

I'm curious about what happened to the article that was posted onto BIM a few days ago entitled 'Easton Community Center are bad employers'. It suddenly vanished and now it's not even in the hidden articles section of the site. There's no longer even a link to the same article on the IWW blog where it was originally posted.

Can anyone provide an explanation?

Easton Community Centre have threatened Bristol IWW with a case of defamation. Bristol IWW is an organisation of volunteers, with limited funds, so have to take threats like this seriously, as it could destroy the organisation. So, Bristol IWW decided to temporarily remove the article to sort out what problems the Trustees have.

Bristol IWW have replied to the threat of defamation, asking for clarification of what problems the trustees have, They have refused to clarify and just insisted, with no reason given, that the article be taken down. So, Bristol IWW are left feeling that this is an attempt to censor the whistleblowing of bad practices at ECC.

Bristol IWW have made it clear that unless they get some kind of response from ECC as to what specific problems they have, they will put the statement back up.

One correction Bristol IWW are happy to make is that Emily Williams is no longer a Trustee for the organisation, having left for personal reasons 8 months ago. The reason that she was included was that (until the day after the IWW statement was released) she was listed on the ECC website as a trustee. She was also, until 15/7/13, listed with Companies House as a Director of ECC, with full legal responsibility for any liability ECC incurred. (so we hope she was aware of that situation). She was also, at the last check, still listed as a trustee with the Charities Commission.
