The only humane solution: Scrap Trident

For 31 years, the Trident Submarines have been endangering human life; in particular workers on the submarines, animals and plants on planet earth. Now the debate about trident has been opened, we at Faslane Peace Camp think it is rather interesting the option of scrapping Trident has been prematurely considered unfeasible based on the assumption that scrapping it may cost up to 150 million pounds.

The debate about scrapping Trident, in our opinion, should not be solely based on costs. We believe our governments should represent us, the population of this earth, and should make decisions based on health and common sense, and not fear, money or the urge to continue with controlling other nations and people on planet earth.

Where government officials have stated, over and over again, that we need nuclear weapons like the Trident Missile system, for peacekeeping, we will keep asking the same question until we get an answer: Nuclear weapons are illegal based on the NUCLEAR NON-PROLIFERATION TREATY. How come that something that is illegal, is still here? Does the government think it is above the law?

Why do government officials believe that nuclear weapons lead to peace, where only peaceful people will lead to peace in our opinion, and showing off your guns can be classified as a violent act, and will, inevitably lead to development of more dangerous and developed weaponry around the globe.

The UK government could set the example by scrapping Trident and inspire other nations to do the same thing. 12 years after we entered Iraq and Afghanistan, no nuclear weapons have been found in those countries to date. Yes, it was a good excuse to take over the Middle East and its natural resources and bring in western Companies for their own gain; the Nuclear non-proliferation treaty applies to the United Kingdom too: We are on this planet together.
