I assume your objection to roads means you are suggesting people arrive by horse cross country ?

Yeah, opposing a specific road being built DEFINITELY means you oppose all roads. Ever.
How about checking out the website and seeing the wide range of reasons people are opposing this road then forming an educated opinion?

I DID read the website which is why I decided to make the frivilous comment.

The reality is that nearly every road that has ever been built people have objected to, the same by the way for nearly every railway development. Some time spent on the internet indicates why this road is required.

You have read the website?

Oh excellent, you have read the website. So which points do you object to specifically?
Or are you just trying to snipe at hard-working activists?

Thanks you two

Well thanks to 'Oi Oi!' for proving my point and to 'South Coast Cab' for missing it :-)

The point is not that there are objections to this scheme, I was making the point that there always are. Spend some time reading about the objections to the M25, the A3, the M1 and many others. Whenever a road has been proposed there have been objections indeed Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis records that in 10BC there were objections to the proposed changes to the Via Flaminia.

Roads are very, very useful

10.07.2013 20:16

Lets just look at things like transporting food and other goods
It would be virtually impossible to move the amount of food required to feed people due to the sheer density of the population.

Either have roads, or cut the population by a huge factor - but where do you put al those people?

we needs roads, the question is how many

Does it matter?..he was probably a police informer anyway (or whatever the toga wearing equivalent was!).

Them blasted roads.

Yeah, but that's only for those living in the cities who can't be arsed to get up off their fat obese arses and actually eat proper food. For them, you do need tonnes and tonnes of roads to feed them because they think they are dying if they miss one of their 37 times a day cow burger snacks.

For the rest of us...you can stick your road up yer arse sideways (and pray it isn't a motorway, you'll never get it out again once its up there!)

That last comment wasn't from me. And as this thread seems to have deteriorated slightly I think I'll skip out.
But as a last point: I don't understand how the fact that because something is frequently objected to (ie. roads have always been opposed, apparently) somehow that makes the objections any less reasonable. It's been a pretty popular idea that we object to paedophilia for quite a while now; does time make that argument invalid?

Regardless, this is me leaving the thread before it goes that special kind of Indy 20+ comments dumb.
