G8 criticism and IM censorship?

Indymedia censorship | 12.06.2013 09:09 | G8 2013 | London

Please explain mods?

There was a post here this morning that was critical of the planning and organisation of the G8 event yesterday.

At first two of the follow-on comments that made entirely reasonable points after it were deleted, and then when that was questioned in the comments the whole newswire piece was deleted.

Why? It was exactly the same as lots of posts here that don't get deleted, so please explain why you choose to delete it mods.

If you want an explanation of hidden posts then use the list

 https://lists.indymedia.org.uk/pipermail/moderation/2013-June/001258.html

If you want to discuss concerns about the way in which the action was organised then contact the stopG8 crew and ask for a debrief meeting

Indymedia is not a service for trolls who wish to attack us or the actions that are reported on Indymedia - its a news wire for people who want a better world......

IN an hour I will hide this thread - and any other posts you spam to the newswire on the matter will also be hidden.

exactly

I read the criticisms of the stop G8 protest this morning and completely agreed with the comments- yesterday was a complete disaster. In order for events like this to be a sucess we need to link up with other groups otherwise these "actions" will just dwindle into a self indulgent subculture that has no connection with people. And no relevance.

Not trolling

12.06.2013 09:50

I have read the list thanks, a few times, but it doesn't answer why the post was deleted and otehrs that are similar but to do with other events aren't. Is it because you had something to do with the organisation by any chance?

And it's not trolling/spamming to criticise events and want to talk about why they weren't good is it?

What?

trolling and truth

12.06.2013 09:56

It is trolling to claim that a statement that there was "no organisation,
no planning and no fall back plan" is "entirely reasonable" when it is a palpable lie.

Now why are you using this thread when there is a list for this exact purpose?

News on the newswire - moderation issues on the moderation list and trolls back under their bridges if they can't be arsed to respect the way things are done.....

As you now have seen the list and know what to do this thread will be gone very soon.

Why Indymedia is such a fucking joke nowadays. How does it feel to waste your time on a 'political ' project that nearly everyone in the movement laughs at?

The authoritarian voice of one mod

Part of the reason for the decline here and probably a factor on why so much of the preperation for the G8 protests were done using other media is because of the attitude you see displayed here by 'ftp'. The 'we know best, if you don't like it fuck off' approach to interaction with the very people who provide the stories that Indymedia needs.

For ftp "trolling' has for a long time been an excuse for a multitude of censorship actions, the 'View All Posts' section of the newswire clearly illustrates the massive number of perfectly legitimate posts and comments that are hidden in many cases simply because ftp doesn't like what they say.

The poor organisation around the G8 protests are clear to any of us that were involved with them but because ftp knows some of those who fucked up he will hide any post or comment that is critical of them.

Google trend searches show that Indymedia UK now has the lowest number of regular visitors since 2003 and it is declining month by month. People reporting from G8 in the activist world chose to ignore Indymedia and post their views on other media and frankly if Indymedia can't get posts during a G8 protest week I must wonder why it is here at all.
