American "Leftist" TV Show Promotes Pigeating

An American tv show ostensibly leftist has given animal flesh promoter Michael Pollan
one hour on publicly owned airwaves to promote the toxic disease, environmental devastation, animal agony, energy waste and expense of eating mammals.
one hour on publicly owned airwaves to promote the toxic disease, environmental devastation, animal agony, energy waste and expense of eating mammals.
Michael Pollan in the New York Times wrote of his year of following 'his' calf to the final butchering before he took the innocent mammal's slain cadaver home to eat him.
He postulated that if he could kill a mammal, he was being more truthful than those who eat beings they have not known. It reminds one of Leo Tolstoy's query as to who was worse... the wolf who cried when he ate the lamb or the wolf who did not. Included here is a picture of "Steer 534" (never given a name) shortly before he was murdered. When a bull is brutally castrated, he becomes defined by his lack as a 'steer'. Steer 534 is the animal Pollan raised for the sole purpose of killing and eating him.
After that Pollan has promoted the concept of 'omnivores' which does not mean 'to eat each creature on earth' nor to eat omnis, but is a new term for those who eat animals, fishes, dairy and nonkilled or stolen foods. It is less threatening and descriptive than 'carnivore'.
Perhaps it is because of the declining sales of all factory farm products, from those pigs raised in captivity and agony at Smithfield, the world's largest factory farm, to those raised in smaller operations before the final betrayal of farmer friendship, that Pollen's latest book promotes heart attack engendering, trichinella worm containing, colon bacteria laden pig carcasses.
Pollan’s several works promoting animal eating have also destroyed animal habitat and caused global warming as they have been published in metropolitan newspapers killing millions of trees annually as well as in treekilling books.
Now Democracy Now, ostensibly a progressive tv and radio network, has given him a full hour to promote animal agony. In it he praises pig flesh cooked at 200 degrees, far below the over 300 degrees necessary to kill trichinella worms, the worms encased in hard cysts who cause trichinosis.

The left isn't interested.

Anarchists are not so different either, many feel superior to other animals, they may not believe in hierarchy in humanity but when it comes to other animal species they have no interest in the victim whatsoever.
The usual tired excuses get issued. What about Inuits? What about vegans eating kumquats from New Zealand? What about me and my identity? What will i do if i don't have a piece of cow to eat? It's better to live a short life and suffer than to not live at all. Why do i have a few canine teeth in my mouth?
Unfortunately these attitudes cut through societal strata, and the left is no better than the right is often no better than self appointed 'anarchists'.

An excellent book on the subject.

But let's not jump from the ethical to the intentionally misleading

Cooked AT, not cooked TO.
I guess perhaps as a presumed vegan you might be so unfamiliar with the cooking of meat that this was an accidental mistake and I am being unjust accusing you of intentional misleading. On the other hand, it is precisely when we are talking about what we know little that we need to look up our facts.
Meat is "cooked" when IT (the meat) has been raised to a temperature that causes various changes. By "it", I mean of course the interior of the piece of meat. The interior is heated from the outside because the meat has been put into a place even warmer. How FAST the interior gets heated depends on how hot this place (an oven, for example).
In other words, to raise the interior to 170F would take hours if the oven were 200F but much less time were the oven set to 300F but it would eventually get there. Similarly it takes longer for the interior of a large piece of meat to become cooked than a small piece even at the same oven temperature,
And no, the interior of cooked meat is NEVER raised to as high as 300F (would be inedible).
We sterilize using steam under modest pressure so a temperature of perhaps 230-240F. Kills pretty much anything.

anarchist
ban books

I was agreeing with you up to here. Stop reading books! Ban newspapers! They kill trees! Where do we then get reading material from? The internet? If you knew half of where your computer came from you'd be having a mental crisis right now judging by your writing. Or do we only allow books if they're on the subjects we agree with?
AR
All of you folks above are complete nuts!

lots of people disagree with the immense cruelty in factory farming and animal testing among other thing so why not focus on that and you might actually have some support instead of being disregarded as a bunch of totalitarian loonies.
superior being
Totalitarian?

You might not like 'totalitarian' approaches, but i favour that over choosing which groups of animals don't need to suffer unnecessarily.

well AR movement of the 90s managed to stop live exports, ban fox hunting (fwiw), with the support of a large percentage of the population who supported the cause as they saw a line being crossed which constituted something like "cruel and unusual" treatment, not because they believed in the ideology of equality between all creatures on this earth.
i think a lot more on the left would like to be more involved with AR but are put off by these kind of frankly unintelligible and fanatical posts. i reckon that there has been a lot of government influence in ostracising the scene from the rest of the left also but supporting crap like this really doesn't help...
.. and if we're not superior beings then why should we give a shit cos my dog certainly don't!
a nother
Just go vegan.
