Sheffield action against library closures and workfare, 23rd March

Unite Community Sheffield | 18.03.2013 12:59 | Workfare | Culture | Public sector cuts | Workers' Movements | Sheffield

This Saturday, we'll be taking to the streets to defend our libraries and take action against forced unpaid work. Join us!

There's two important events coming up this Saturday: first off, starting at 12 at Central Library in town, our friends at Sheffield Campaign Against Library Privatisation will be holding an event to celebrate and defend Sheffield's libraries against the threat of cuts and closures. The facebook event for that is here:  https://www.facebook.com/events/535032956520045/?ref=25
Unite Community Sheffield members will be attending from 12 to 1, then we'll head off to pay a visit to some shops that use workfare to send out the message that forced unpaid work is unacceptable. The facebook event for that is here:  https://www.facebook.com/events/431099706978940/?ref=25
Our protest against workfare is part of a national week of action called by Boycott Workfare that will also see protests happening up and down the country. Boycott Workfare's campaign has been successful in forcing many workfare exploiters to pull out of the scheme, and has upset the Department for Work and Pensions so much that they've lied in public about it:  http://www.boycottworkfare.org/?p=2150 With your help, we can be part of finishing off these exploitative schemes for good.
See you on Saturday!
