EU Ban On Animal Testing For Cosmetics Comes Into Effect Today

The Body Ship | 10.03.2013 17:55 | Animal Liberation | Health | World

London. Leona Lewis and her dog celebrate a milestone in 20 years of animal rights campaigning by ethical beauty retailer The Body Shop and non-profit organisation Cruelty Free International, as an EU ban on animal testing for cosmetics comes into effect today.

From today onwards, anyone who wishes to sell new cosmetic products and ingredients in the EU must not test them on animals anywhere in the world. The Body Shop will not be affected by the ban, having always been Against Animal Testing

The Body Shop and Cruelty Free International are urging everyone to sign their pledge to end animal testing for cosmetics, as part of an international campaign to make the EU ban go global. The pledges are to be presented to governments and stakeholders around the world to demonstrate public support for a total worldwide ban.

Leona says: “I urge you to sign the Cruelty Free International pledge, calling on governments around the world to introduce a ban on animal testing for cosmetics. Together we can send a message to governments worldwide that cruelty free is the humane future.”

To make your voice heard, sign the pledge by heading into any The Body Shop store or by visiting www.crueltyfreeinternational.org/telltheworld

The Body Shop UK team will be celebrating the ban by touring London in a double decker bus on Monday 11th March with their very own troupe of happy bunnies. Follow the action via Twitter @thebodyshopuk #EUCrueltyFree.

It's actually tomorrow!

The ban actually comes into effect from tomorrow, the 11th of March and not the 10th as suggested by this article, but as the EU represents 40% of the global cosmetics market this is a very significant step as it will effect the global market because they aren't going to start developing cosmetics for the EU and different products for the rest of the world/

Body Shop...

Didn't Body Shop start trading in China a little while back? As far as I understand it, the law in China requires ALL cosmetics to be tested on animals, so Body Shop must be complying with this. It doesn't necessarily mean that the products available here are tainted with rabbit tears - but it does mean that Body Shop, as a multinational entity, IS complicit in animal testing.

Good news on the ban though!

Are you sure?

Body Shop == L'Oreal

11.03.2013 08:23

The Body Shop is now owned by L'Oreal, who were one of the worst offenders for animal testing so it's a bit rich of them to now celebrate this, especially as their parent company lobbied harder than anyone else to prevent this ban from coming into force!

!

can we hide this corporate shite?

this is not the place for corporations like the body shop to do their free publicity

Issue

Incredible that people are spending time and money campaigning on such a non issue as this. The Western countries are currently facing economic collapse, the environment is currently at the tipping point and war rages around the world and despite all this people care about a few bunnies - get a grip.

No Cuts !
