Worrying developments with EDL tactics

Just heard news from a few fellow antifascists, apparently EDL members got amongst the UAF crowd today...

... and followed individuals once they left the main demo. Reports are that one female and two males were followed and assaulted by 4 fascists after leaving the main demo in Cambridge and unconfirmed reports that a SWP member in his 60's was also followed and hit from behind when he went to get in his car.

Will update as soon as we find out more but, this is a worrying change of tactics for the EDL if it can 100% be verified.

EDL have been trying to follow certain activists home after demos etc for years, not to attack them directly, but to try to find out where they live (so far as I'm aware, without any success). Now however, as they get more desperate, and their thoughts increasingly turn away from political results to just getting revenge for their failures and defeats, we need to start being more careful about this. One good tip from one of the books about AFA is if you're going on a demo always find out where the local cab offices are beforehand and make sure you've got enough cash to get a taxi out of the area if you need to leave a demo on your own or in a small group

The one female and two males who were attacked are okay. Word is from activists who went out to assist them is they are currently giving statements to the police. The area they were attacked has a number of CCTV cameras so the attack will have been caught on film.

The SWP member who was attacked we have no further updates. Although another SWP member we spoke too says he has been taken to hospital. Will update when we hear more.

I'm not sure how reliable the original post is....would like to hear more info. I can't imagine it would have been that easy for some of the 30 (30!!!) EDL to have broken off from heavy police protection and followed antifascists, when they're outnumbered by 16 to 1......

Update:

The three who were attacked have given statements to the police. No word yet if the arrests are connected to these assaults. Their injuries are minor just cuts and bruises. One of the males attacked got kicked hard in the ribs but thinks he will be okay. The SWP member who was also attacked has left hospital. Again his injuries are minor, nothing to worry about.

Sorry I wasn't clear. The EDL who carried the assaults didn't break away from the EDL demo. They joined the UAF demo as if they were apart of it and followed individuals as they left. They were there all day mingling, one of the antifascists attacked said they were talking to the EDL lot about getting up to the Manchester demo and about tactics to use to oppose fascism in the future.

It is a worrying change of tactics. I was there all day and didn't have a clue any EDL were in the UAF crowd. I've got a favour to ask. If people would look through the photos of todays UAF demo and see if they spot any known fascist faces amongst them. The EDL members who carried out the attack MUST have been to EDL demos in the past and could have been photographed. I'm going to go through and compare faces from today with photographs from past EDL demos, see if I can see any matches and I hope others will help with this.
