Antifacists attacked whilst leafletting in Manchester!

Today 8 activists from the Manchester area went leafleting to highlight the EDL's upcoming demo in March.

All went well, we handed out over 500 leaflets and got some people saying they would be attending. Whilst out, one of our activists saw a pair of suspicious looking men watching us and talking on their mobiles. When one of our antifascists went to challenge them they both went into a pub.

All went well until after the day of action when four Antifascists had left. We were on the way to where we'd parked the cars when the two fascists we'd seen outside the pubs as well as 6 or 7 other fascists ran up behind us and attacked us. I was hit on the back of the head, my friend had to go to hospital with a broken nose and the other got hit a few times too. It would have gotten nasty were it not for a nearby supermarket's security rushing out to stop them.

We've got another day of action planned in the next couple of days. Please, any antifascists in the Manchester area urgently attend. This was an organised attack, whether it was EDL, NF or NWI we don't know but they waited until our group had split up before attacking.

Everyone is okay, but it was lucky. We were outnumbered by the fascist and need more numbers for leafleting in the future to stop it happening again.

First off, sorry to hear you had this predatory attack, I hope your numbers swell, and you are able to fend off any further trouble.

Coming from a background of learning street self-defense for a couple of years, I would like to pointr a few things out which I hope will keep you safe.

1. They had been weighing you up, and following you for sometime, meaning the signs were there to see. Clocking you are being watched, and getting on the phone yourself can deter an attack long enough to make it to a safe area until back up arrives.

2. Location. You are aware you are being followed, are you walking into an area that is isolated, doesn't have good escape routes, and poor visiability? A carpark is a good place to spring a suprise assault, and I think the supermarket appears the relatively safest place in this case.

3. Noise deterrent. Whstles, screaming, and drawing attention takes the wind and ferocity out of an attack.

4. having a cohesive plan of action, that everyone in the group is down with, when to run, how to 5. Staying as a large group, and not splintering off.

6. Awareness of being tailed, doubleing back if need be, particularly if you are aware of being watched - keep your home a sanctuary.

The victims first and foremost need to report the violent crime to the police. It might have been captured on camera.

Secondly, go to the Manchester Evening News.

As a crime has been committed, the newspaper cannot allow pro-EDL comments to be made by facsist trolls as this could hinder the investigation. Thus this would be a one-way antifascist media exercise.

This would be a publicity coup for AF in MCR, and by commiting this violent crime, the neo-Nazi scum would have been shooting themselves in the foot.

The EDL / NWI / ect. can then go back to masturbating in-front of their life-sized wall portraits of Adolf Hitler!
