Youth for Human Rights Florida held an event called Ice Skating for Human Rights at an indoor ice skating rink in Clearwater.

On Sunday, January 20th, Youth for Human Rights Florida held an event called Ice Skating for Human Rights at an indoor ice skating rink in Clearwater. The event was held to help bring more awareness to the subject of Human Rights and to serve as a fun-raising activity for the organization’s various endeavors in the field of Human Rights. That’s right! I said Fun Raising because it was great fun and it happened to raise some money for a wonderful cause.
The event was put on entirely by volunteer work and many thanks go to the rink management for their generous donation of the rink time.
There were lots of kids in attendance of all ages including some first-time skaters which is always a special moment. A sprinkling of adults even donned the skates to join in. Various skating abilities were on display, but they all had fun together while enjoying a variety of special Ice Games and while skating around with banners displaying special messages for Human Rights. The organization also handed out free Human Rights DVDs to the public that explain the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Youth for Human Rights teaches youth about human rights both in and out of the classroom so they become advocates for tolerance and peace. Designed to present the subject of human rights in multimedia formats suitable for all ages, the materials for this program include "The Story of Human Rights," a documentary video that illustrates the history of human rights through the ages; booklets and public service announcements that educate youth and adults on the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and teaching aids that include a study guide, activities manual and educator's classroom kit.
As humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard stated, "Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream."
