How do Starbucks dodge paying so much tax?

Roll on 2013 :) | 20.01.2013 18:53 | Public sector cuts | Workers' Movements

How do Starbucks manage to shaft UK tax-payers for so much of the cost of the tax-funded infrastructure that they exploit?

Ignoring that the logo is actually a copyrighted trademark symbol, I don't get what the edits mean apart from they look artistically pleasing. But most of that is due to the talent of the original artist.

Wouldn't it be great if Starbucks tried to sue for copyright infringement... that'd be one way to turn this artwork into an international media event ;)

I'm guessing the blood's there because the government closuring Fire Stations, Accident & Emergency departments & hospital maternity units the because of a "deficit" that could easily be paid-back if they bothered to collect tax from multinationals - those closures will KILL people, and kill ordinary hard-working tax-payers no less

Thanks

Collecting taxes from "multinationals"

21.01.2013 14:20

THAT is what is being missed in this discussion. The more a multinational is taxed in one of the countries in which it operates the less in another. The multinational MAY get to choose if can cause the profit to appear in one place rather than another and that appears to be what is happening in the Starbucks case where "supplies" are bought and sold between units of Starbucks in different places.

Look, I fully understand why it would be in YOUR best interest that Starbucks make more in Britain and so pay more tax in Britain and as a result to pay less tax here where Starbucks profits ultimately end up. Pay tax in Britain and get to treat that tax as a deduction from US taxes (credit for foreign taxes paid).

But guess what folks. That would have people HERE up in arms because Starbucks was ducking US taxes. People HERE don't give a damn about you folks in Britain any more than you give a damn about us here.
