Communiqué from the Indigenous Revolutionary Clandestine Committee – General Command of the Zapatista National Liberation Army

Mexico, December 30 2012.

To the People of Mexico:
To the People and Governments of the World:
Brothers and Sisters:
Compañeros and Compañeras:

In the early morning hours of December 21, 2012, tens of thousands of indigenous Zapatistas mobilized and took, peacefully and silently, five municipal seats in the southeast Mexican state of Chiapas.

In the cities of Palenque, Altamirano, Las Margaritas, Ocosingo, and San Cristóbal de las Casas, we looked at you and at ourselves in silence.

Ours is not a message of resignation.

It is not one of war, death, or destruction.

Our message is one of struggle and resistance.

Hey,

I think these Zapatista solidarity things are great. When i try to read about the Zapatista, there is a lot on their early emergence, but not much on what is happening now in a broader kind of picture. If you could recommend an article on what the situation is now that would be great. I mean, questions like do the zapatista have an army/miitia and weapons still or not? what is the situation with the government, and what is the future political line or trajectory, of them toward the government, and the government toward them, and how the rest of the political forces in mexico view them, of the left and right? How long are the Mexican government going to tolerate an autonomous zone in their country, and to what extent is it really autonomous? please recommend something because there is not much news these days about the zapatistas that kind of gives a picture of what is happening for someone like me who is interested but doesnt necessarily follow every turn and event that closely. Thanks, and good luck to this campaign.
