Sources close to the olympic champion have informed this journalist that the 26 year old Bray native is most likely to fight under the union jack rather than under the Irish tricolour.

Katies father Peter - a former amateur boxer - was born and raised in England.

It is understood that Katie holds both British and Irish citizenship.

When a spokesman at her Bray gym was approached and asked what her reasons for making the switch were he simply replied "economical"

An official statement is expected to be announced momentarily.
