its clearly not as simple as assad=bad and rebels =good
assad was elected and changed the constitution recently by referendum to remove the baath party as supreme political force, and limit terms in office. an act of democratisation that makes the syrian constitution more democratic than our own- we still suffer the indignity of an hereditary supreme being as head of state
there is not much difference between the current syrian constitution and what the rebels demand or the commission of war crimes . war is ugly on both sides.
the real difference is that the rebels are being backed by western governments as a means of getting rid of another part of the pan arab resistance to israel
syria was on the US list of the axis of evil back in 2002 along with iraq, libya, north korea, and iran.
its no surprise that this rebellion continues, its a US/NATO proxy war that is cheaper than an all out invasion
western humanitarian military support is a lie to hide the advance of western global domination.
