AWEA releases plans to monitor Richmond Deer Cull
AWEA | 22.12.2012 17:45 | Animal Liberation | London
Animal welfare officers (AWOs) will be present at Richmond Park should deer be culled in February 2013.
AWEA is committed to monitoring the cull and taking any legal means necessary to intervene where a breach of animal welfare legislation is identified.
Jake Knight, AWEA welfare executive, said: “Our AWOs will be at Richmond Park to monitor the cull.
“We urge Royal Parks to take the decision not to cull deer, however should they proceed, we will monitor the cull to ensure compliance with animal welfare legislation.
“Wild animals are protected by law and any suffering caused to animals may constitute a criminal offence.”

You NEED to explain. What is YOUR proposal to keep the deer population in balance with the available environment in the absence of large predators capable of killing deer? If your concern is JUST our moral state, that we not be directly responsible for the deaths of the deer and prefer them to be ill, starving, stunted, dying anyway, and only after having destroyed the last remnant of the forest then you are not my friend but my enemy.
a) Bring back the wolves --- somehow I don't think that will fly. We over here can't seem to get people to accept a return of the wolves.
b) Capture and sterilize. You had best describe how you will raise the money for this. Or organize a majority willing to vote for that instead of the much cheaper culling. You had perhaps include that other programs you would defund in exchange (I mean WITHIN the overall environmental budget)
MDN
How will you monitor it?
