After opening one of it's first gyms in Sheffield city centre over two and a half years ago, the budget gym chain PureGym will be opening two more gyms in the city early in 2013, located in the north of the city centre and near Millhouses.
The PureGym in Sheffield city centre has now been open for around 2 and half years and was one of the first PureGyms to open. It has proved to be very popular and at the start of 2013 two more PureGyms will be opening. PureGym Sheffield North will be opening in the north of the city centre on Saville Street. PureGym Sheffield Millhouses will be located south of Sheffield city centre near Millhouses on Archer Road.
Budget gyms have become huge over the past few years with the likes of The Gym, easyGym and Pure Gym expanding at a phenomenal rate. The fitness industry as a whole has seen a large expansion over the past few years with the total market value estimated to be worth around £3.86 billion and over 7.6 million people in the UK a registered member of a gym or health club (The Leisure Database, 2012). The state of the economy has produced a unique opportunity for budget gym chains to compete in a highly competitive market place, by meeting the demands of an ever increasing number of consumers that wish to get fit but do not want the high gym fees.
Budget gyms like PureGym adopt a different business model to the traditional gyms and health clubs; they have recognised that it is the wet areas such as swimming pools, saunas and Jacuzzis that really push up the price of gym membership. In fact most gym users rarely use these facilities so PureGym have instead invested in lots of quality gym equipment. This is not only to keep costs down but also to meet their second aim of removing as many barriers to exercise as possible. This approach of low cost and convenient exercise can be seen in the very low number of staff it takes to run each gym. This is because members gain entry to the gym and changing facilities via a PIN and keypad door entry system, allowing the Gyms to remain open 24/7 and monitored via CCTV. The other thing that often puts people off joining a gym is the long contracts, PureGym have done away with these meaning members are free to cancel their membership whenever they wish. Finally these gyms are not just rooms packed full of gym equipment they also have lots of classes available so members can take part in spinning, boxercise or Zumba classes.
Both new PureGyms should open early in 2013 with an exact date yet to be announced, details will be announced nearer the time on the pages below.
