Union branch votes for one-state solution for Palestine

Lambeth Unison | 28.11.2012 12:21 | Palestine | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | London | World

Lambeth’s Local Government Branch of UNISON last week voted to endorse a one-state solution for Palestine based on equality and justice for all citizens, and supporting the right of return to millions of Palestinian refugees. A motion was tabled in response to Israel’s ongoing attacks and siege on Gaza.

After discussion, it was agreed that “Israel is a terrorist and Apartheid state - armed with F-16 fighter jets, helicopter gunships and tanks - that is attacking a largely impoverished and isolated people. For over six decades it has carried out policies of ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.”

It was noted that 1.5 million people of Gaza live in an, “Open air prison and that for years Israel has blocked the transport of food, medicine and vital supplies forcing the people of Gaza to live in inhumane conditions and leaving the majority of people unemployed.”

The proposal for the creation of a single state would encompass all of the present territory of Israel, the West Bank including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. It would grant citizenship and equal rights in the combined entity for all inhabitants of the West Bank, Gaza and Israel without regard to ethnicity or religion. Crucially, it acknowledges the importance of the right of return for over four million Palestinian refugees

The branch urged members to take part in demonstrations taking place in solidarity with the Palestinian people and support local solidarity initiatives.

happy to know that they have done so.

in other news, the latvian card rental alliance has voted unanimosly to support car parking policy in lambeth.

What possibly is the situation in that region to do with a union branch in a small london borough?

going to get shouted down and censored for this but frankly common sense needs to get at least a look in.

ok, so - you're equating Lambeth's Car Parking Policy with with a long term murderous Occupation.

And you've never heard of solidarity.

Other votes

Did they pass any resolutions about the political oppression of the people in Cuba ? Or maybe they voted to show solidarity with the people's uprising in Syria ? It's possible I may also have missed their proclomation concerning the recent death of thousands of political prisoners in North Korea following a crackdown.

Do please tell us more.
