Casualty Rates

From B’Tselem:

Initial B’Tselem investigations indicate that 102 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip between the launch of the Israeli military’s “Pillar of Defense” operation on the afternoon of November 14, 2012 and the night of November 19. Initial investigations indicate that at least 40 of those killed were civilians, among them 19 minors, and 10 women.

B’Tselem will continue to investigate the incidents in which civilians have been killed in Gaza, and to review reports coming in even now regarding additional incidents in which civilians have been killed or injured.

Three Israelis were killed in the course of the operation up to the night of the 19th, as a result of rocket fire from Gaza by Palestinian militant organizations.

From Turkey

The Turkish government, meanwhile, claims to have killed hundreds of PKK fighters in recent months, both in operations in southeastern, predominantly Kurdish-populated Turkey and during air raids against suspected PKK camps in the mountains of northern Iraq.

“Within the last month, in the operations executed throughout the region, about 500 terrorists were eliminated,” Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a speech Monday. “We will on the one hand develop Turkey and on the other hand continue to tirelessly struggle against this terrorist organization that has bloody hands.”

We don’t know how many civilians died in Turkey’s fight against the PKK. Less effort is put into publicising these figures.
