Matt Taylor, a Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner candidate, announced to a packed audience at the LGBT Hustings at Queen's Hotel on Wednesday 17 October, that he wants to introduce a new concept into politics called 'Gorilla Democracy.'

Organised by Christopher Cooke the Chairman of the LGBT Community Safety Forum, he was one of 5 candidates to sit on the panel., together with Katy Bourne (Conservative), Godfrey Daniel (Labour), Ian Chisnall (Independent), Tony Armstrong (UKIP).

During their initial 5 minute introduction Matt Taylor announced that due to the likelihood of only an 18% voter turnout and a near guarantee win for the Conservative candidate, it would be folly in the extreme to thrown his £5000 deposit down the drain.

In light of which he asked that if anyone wanted to vote for him, they should spoil their ballot papers by writing SOS on it. Explaining further that all spoilt ballot papers are counted and that in the miraculous event that there were more spoilt papers than any others, the counters could divide them further by counting the papers with SOS written on them.

He said “I'm not going to let stupid bureaucracy to stand in my way of my perfect job.”

Matt Taylor will be attending Hustings at Sussex University on Wednesday 31st October starting at 7pm and Thursday 1st November at Crawley Youth Centre at 7.30pm.
