Workfare Shutdown!

Boycott Workfare | 05.10.2012 09:23

The fight back against workfare continues...

The fight back against workfare continues on Oct 20th when tens of thousands are expected to march on London against austerity. As people march for a future that works, Boycott Workfare will be taking action for a future without forced unpaid labour.

The growing resistance against exploitative government work schemes is rattling the arrogance of workfare’s architects and profiteers. Retailers have withdrawn from workfare due to pressure from campaigners; warnings of “imminent contract failures” are being m
ade by Work Programme charities. Neither Workfare nor the Work Programme is working.

Any of us could be subjected to forced unpaid work through the government's back to work schemes, so it's in the interest of all of us that we fight back. At the end of the day, workfare is an attack on the work and welfare of the unemployed and employed. It not only provides a source of cheap labour to profit-making companies but it also undermines the pay and conditions of those already in paid work.

Join Boycott Workfare in London on Oct 20th and let’s shut down the profiteers exploiting the unemployed.

Meet at 2.30pm at Oxford Circus.

Bring game face, banners, noise and fight back!

Why tell lies?

"forced unpaid labour" - Never heard such a bunch of bollocks in my whole life. No one is forcing anyone to partake in workfare, nor is it unpaid. You work and in return get paid job seekers allowance, you fail to work and you lose it. Just like in the real world with a proper job, you don't turn up you don't get paid. Likewise nobody is forced to partake in the scheme, if you don't want to do it nobody is going to make you but at the same time you shouldn't expect to be able to sponge off the tax payer.

Calling it forced unpaid labour doesn't help your cause. Complaining that it isn't paid in line with the minimum wage is a perfectly fine complaint to make. However calling it unpaid labour is an outright lie £71 is a lot more than £0 which is what you are claiming. The reality is most people on JSA are earning the equivalent of someone working 35 hours on the minimum wage, especially when you take account of the fact they will also have their rent and council tax covered plus things like dental treatment, prescription charges, etc.

I require you to remove the picture of my Hotel from your we site.I also request you do not do another demonstration outside my Hotel because we have no Government Workfare Scheme people at this Hotel and never have had. Also we do not have a single person paid below the minimum wage at this Hotel and we never have had. I find this practice abhorrent and would never allow it in my Hotel.Remember Holiday Inn is a predominantly franchise organisation and whilst they Manage an some run properties, they do not Manage or own this property.
Please confirm back to me that you have adhered to my wishes.
I have many guests from all over the world and 90% of my staff are loyal and long serving.
Guests do not come to London to be harassed by demonstrators and your actions could eventually cost some of my employees their jobs if this business suffers because of your mis conceived actions.
Please call me if you want to discuss this further.
