Vigil for Assange outside the Ecuadorian Embassy under threat from the cops

WISE Up Action | 30.08.2012 10:04 | Repression | Terror War

Early yesterday evening, with less than 15 minutes warning, the police moved in to take away the metal barriers that had created a pen opposite the Ecuadorian Embassy. They later appeared to be attempting to remove the vigil.

After: the vigil this morning
After: the vigil this morning

BEFORE

The barriers were originally put there ten weeks ago for the world’s media when Julian Assange took refuge in the embassy, while those standing in solidarity occupied the pavement right under the embassy windows. Later, there was a request for the vigil to move across the road into the pen and it has remained here for perhaps the past eight or nine weeks, the bare metal of the crowd barriers gradually disappearing under banners, posters, placards and other decoration in solidarity with Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and WikiLeaks.

YESTERDAY

 http://bambuser.com/v/2943154

This footage by James Albury documents what was going on several hours after the barriers had been taken away when, under cover of darkness, the cops appeared to be trying to remove those continuing the vigil on grounds of obstruction of the pavement.

Sergeant (‘Acting Police Inspector’):

"I don’t think you can have a static protest without obstructing the footpa…pavement."

THIS MORNING

The vigil remains this morning at the edge of the pavement. People are needed to help sustain the vigil as well as umbrellas and extra cover from the rain.

Please get down there if you can. The location is 3 Hans Crescent, London SW1X 0LS, adjacent to the back of Harrods and closest tube Knightsbridge.

The words of Harlon Stone, US Attorney General in 1924, are worth remembering:

"When a police system passes beyond the limit of dealing only with such conduct as is forbidden by the laws, it is dangerous to the administration of justice and to human liberty."

Julian Assange is an evil rapist who raped and terrorised two Swedsish women. Why are you defending an evil violent rapist?

Bradley Manning

Meanwhile Bradley gets forgotten while Julian as usual revels in the media. The real hero of Wikileaks is Bradley, without his contribution the entire site would be a nothing.

If he has nothing to hide why wont he go to Sweden?

30.08.2012 13:11

If he has nothing to hide why wont he go to Sweden to face his accusers? An innocent man doesn't run from a trial. All this talk of his fear about being extradited to America is bullshit! The Swedish government has made it very clear the chances of that happening are zero.

Oh-oh we forgot to take our medicine today

30.08.2012 14:56

... didn't we?

Screaming "evil violent rapist" does not change the facts of the case. Whatever crazed agenda you might be trying to express with those remarks would be better served in an outdoor place where after screaming you might feel a lot better, more relaxed.

Then you would be able to concentrate enought to actually READ the details behind the accusations against a man who has exposed war crimes and fought for truth and transparency.

Maybe you might even then change your opinion.

In fact Bradley Manning is the real hero of the Wikileaks saga and far too often overlooked by Assange's band of disciples. He took the risks, he did the right thing, he acted out of conscience and HE is paying the price.

Assange used Bradley to get probably 90% of the information on Wikileaks which before the the Manning revelations was little more than a list of some disgraced local councillors and was about to go out of business.

I don't think that Assange is a rapist but an allegation has been made and he should answer it, hiding at the embassy of a country with a very questionable human rights record does nothing for his claims of innocence.

Bradley Manning

30.08.2012 15:46

Bradley Manning is a nobody and this vigil and he are irrelevant to each other. All Manning did was download the information and send it to Wikileaks, it is Julian Assange who through his fearless determination to expose the corrupt, illegal actions of the US military that will pay very probably with his life.

As to the allegations of the two women, these are simply not credible.

Manning

30.08.2012 15:57

Somebody with the annoying habit of posting with my (or other) alias. That lame post about Manning was from someone too dull to invent his own name.

Nobdy knows what Bradley Manning did or did not do. These allegations come from the Pentagon, not exactly an institution reknown for its record of telling the truth.

That said, if Manning did in fact provide the information, it is indeed a HEROIC act -exposing war crimes - that thousands of other US-military could have done, but didn't. It is one of the reasons that Island has nominated him to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Yay Iceland! ! !

" Nobdy knows what Bradley Manning did or did not do. "

Of course we bloody do, he has admitted the charges and detailed the extent of the data he transfered to Wikileaks

30.08.2012 17:59

Instead of spending your life spamming and trolling Indymedia with stuff like that above why not become involved with something useful like the fight to protect Julian Assange for example

Your childish copying of my nickname is time simply wasted both for you and the bigger needs of the community

Grow up and do something with your life

sexcrimes or honeytrap?

30.08.2012 18:09

Anna Ardin one of the women accusing WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange of sex crimes appears to have worked with a group that has connections to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Both Ardin and Sofia Wilén, the second accuser, sent SMS messages and tweets boasting of their conquests following the alleged “rapes.”

“In the case of Ardin it is clear that she has thrown a party in Assange’s honour at her flat after the ‘crime’ and tweeted to her followers that she is with the ‘the world’s coolest smartest people, it’s amazing!” She wrote.

The source you have for your claims is some guy talking on RT news channel.

If you are going to claim Anna Ardin works for the CIA, you are going to have to provide better evidence than that.
