Smash EDO anti semitic libel: Tory Story II

In response to our earlier story B&H Tories rushed out a statement written by Graham Cox, chairman of the local Conservatives and co-incidentally one-time head of Brighton CID. Unfortunately it didn't shed much light on the issue - so here's what we said in return...

Sadly I know (i think from Brighton Politics Blog) Mike Weatherly doesn't run his own twitter so he won't see any comments you send to him.

However its probably his office staff which do, which includes Robert Nemeth, so maybe its still a good idea to do it.

Can you explain why the word "JEW" was scrawled on the door of a squat? SNOB (AHA) support squats but this is ...........well Disgusting comes to mind.

How dare you accuse us TORIES of such down right lies. WE NEVER LIE. Brighton people know that, that's why they voted us in! And will continue to do so for ever more. Ask David & George, they'll back us up, we're all in this together you know. Thank GOD we sorted the LIBOR out other wise we'd be in a right old mess. Trust us Tories, we'll see you right;)

When we investigated the allegation however we found that there was no substance to it. The building, Park House in Hove, had been squatted in 2010. The squatters told us that when they began living in the building they found that in one of the rooms the word ‘Jew’ had been written on a door. Underneath, in a different colour paint was a cross. The graffiti was pre-existent to the squatters moving in. Later that year the same squatters organised a benefit party for Smash EDO at Park House. It took place in a different room from the one containing the graffiti. The banner mentioned by Nemeth was left over from the benefit party. Robert Nemeth’s allegation that the Smash EDO banner was next to the graffiti is false. Nemeth, in attempting to back up this allegation, has provided photos from inside the squat. However the photos simply show the graffiti itself, in one picture, and the banner in another separate picture. There is no evidence that the graffiti was next to the banner.

i used to live with a jewish guy we squatted together for a few years in the 1990's. he wrote "jew" on his bedroom door, and in response i wrote "queer" on mine. within a week everyone in the squat had something on their door, even the one white hetero boy who wrote "so privileged it hurts".

nobody wrote anything on anyone else's door, we each did it on our own bedroom doors. it made us laugh, and it felt empowering at the time to reclaim these words that others might have used against us. it was bonding, even.

luckily we didn't have any tories come round taking pictures and judging us for how we dealt with our various oppressions. nobody accused me of being homophobic and nobody accused my jewish friend of being ant-semitic. funny that.
