Re-think the transition

www.istitutoonoratodamen.it | 25.06.2012 10:26 | Workers' Movements

Capitalism is going through a crisis but its alternative – socialism – makes fear. What is the relevance of the socialist perspective?

We are faced with a real historical paradox: while the capitalistic way of production shows all its limits and confirms its transitional nature – throughout the bob up of its contradictions - socialism has become a meaningless word.

Stalinist counter-revolution can be surely mentioned among the causes of this loss of meaning. First, Stalinism succeeded in passing one of the most violent capitalistic dictatorship off as socialism; then, with its fall, it has also decreed the failure of it.

Socialism - as transitional phase from the capitalistic to the communist society - is identified not only as the one social form that can satisfy the needs of the collectivity without exploiting the workers; it also sets the primary material conditions to accomplish the biggest revolution in History.

Nowadays, it is possible to restore the meaning of the word “socialism” as a concrete alternative that does not arise from the “thought that thinks itself”. It is possible on the condition of critically revising all the former elaboration about the so-called phase of transition developed by the revolutionary Marxism, particularly Marx in Critique to the Gotha Program and Lenin in State and Revolution.

We are surer and surer of that, especially with regards to the contributions on the topic by the current left communist's political organisations; contributions that are based on the slavish repetition of the formulations inherited from the 19th century and the Third International. We start a reflection that aims to define – at least in general terms – the contents of the socialist transformation in the modern and complex capitalistic society, so different from the nineteenth-century's one, when the theory of the “scientific socialism” has been formulated.

Thematics are broad and complex. We aim to start a discussion that we hope being as developed as possible.

"name a country where it does work as laid down, scientific socialism dosnt work on we unscientific humans"

Most nations that have taken on Socialism have been targeted by Capitalist interests determined to unseat it for ideological reasons. Capitalists despise Socialism for no other reason than they despise having to work for the interests of the community. They would rather poison people to make a profit than work in harmony with the community.

But its common for people liing in Capitalist states to claim that Socialism doesn't work. They set about trying to kill it off and then complain that its failure is down to something inherent in the design. Its the same as stabbing somebody to death and then complaining that your victim deserved to die because he couldn't take being stabbed to death!!!

Capitalism is a fraud and in its entirety survives on nothing more than an animistic lie.

Recognise the lie...understand the fraud.

The problem with the Socialist is that he hasn't quite worked out a way to seize the knife from the Capitalist, in order to plunge it hilt deep into the neck of the Capitalist.

The way forward

The first three posters here make clear why Socialism needs to be imposed on Society for the greater good. Individual greed means the masses will never vote for it which is why the intelligentsia need to make the decisions for the greater good.

I am always surprised people cannot understand this. As a result of social conditioning and education Working Class people believe they can 'better themselves' instead of understanding that they need to accept the collective need and work with others for the good of all.

transition to what?

The options are:
1). Free choice, where each individual choses what they do, who they do it for and negotiates terms and conditions on a mutually voluntary basis; what collectively makes up a free market economy; a system as chaotic as mother nature herself; forming ever changing balances and equilibriums, according to the changing needs of people.

1). A planned economy, where all choices are made collectively; centrally; by Mummy/Daddy state, Matriarch/Patriarch state, Left wing/Right wing state, where each individual is told what they will do, who they will do it for and what they will get for it; as system where the ebbs and flows of people and nature are kept in check by king Knut sitting on his thrown by the sea shore.

Surprised but happy

Very surprised to see an 'anarchist' support true free market Capitalism when he/she wrote,

"Free choice, where each individual choses what they do, who they do it for and negotiates terms and conditions on a mutually voluntary basis; what collectively makes up a free market economy; a system as chaotic as mother nature herself; forming ever changing balances and equilibriums, according to the changing needs of people. Exactly what Capitalism is supposed to be.

Anarchist

is rather obviously NOT an anarchist. Surely all these nutters trolling this site should be busy working for The Man they love so much. Back to work! Or Daddy will be very cross.

The future

27.06.2012 13:18

In fact there is a clear and obvious 3rd choice

A planned economy where all choices are made by an intelligentsia able to decide the best route for the wider population where each individual is told what they will do, who they will do it for and what they will get for it. This ensures equality for all and people receiving what they deserve. Choice and Democracy are an illusion with most of the population too stupid to even understand the policies of the parties they 'vote' for.

Sounds like hell.
Suppose i want to be a vet, but the "intelligentsia" tell me to go working in a field picking root vegetables. Or,.... that i am a vet, but then i want to pack it all in and go travelling the world on a whim. But the "intelligentsia" says "no... you must do what we tell you, or else..."
I dont think you have thought this through much.

"Choice and Democracy are an illusion with most of the population too stupid to even understand the policies of the parties they 'vote' for."

Wel... with your 'final solution' to the worlds problems. I'm surprised if anyone thinks you have got 2 brain cells.
