Report of Smash EDO Phone and twitter blockade

Smashy | 13.06.2012 10:09 | Smash EDO | Afghanistan | Anti-militarism | Iraq

Smash EDO have called for three months of direct action to close down EDO MBM - From 1st May to 1st August 2012.

On Tuesday 12th July a phone blockade of EDO MBM and ITT Exelis was held.

The Brighton factory was bombarded by calls asking them about the ethics of making arms as well as some unwanted pizza deliveries. Sounds like those on the end of the phones got a bit riled telling callers to "get a job" (although there's no reason people couldn't have been calling from work") and "shoot yourself in the head with a gun", the reply to this was "can you sell me a gun".

Many twitter users @mentioned @ITTExelis asking about the company's complicity in war crimes. ITT Exelis, EDO MBM's parent company, uses its Twitter feed to disseminate PR material about the company, Twitter blockades like this one prevent social networking from being an effective PR tool.

So that's what the Smash EDO campaign has descended to, some sarcastic 'tweets' ?

I realise that Smash EDO is a group in decline but that is simply pathetic as a tactic.

Little Bird, one scroll of the newswire would show you dozens of other types of action that Smash EDO did recently, but you being a troll are a little bit too obvious. Get a life.

The Smash EDO campaign even while in decline was still organising demos outside the premises, direct confrontation with staff and other actions. These are indeed documented on the newswire. Now however it is reduced to 'tweeting'

Does that not strike you as a little pathetic ?

Campaign choices

Once 'SMASH EDO' made its infamous decision to exclude people because of their religious affiliation (let's cover it up by calling them Zionists) then it all went downhill from there. That's a great pity because I always thought it was a campaign with a real chance of winning but of course once you allow fundamentalist Islamic nutters to have influence you are done for. Lessons for the future me thinks.
