On Saturday 9th June 2012, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) charged an animal rights activist who tried to rescue abused rabbits in Sompting.
Jake Knight was charged with fraud by misrepresentation after allegedly stating he had authority to remove three breeding rabbits from a breeder in Sompting. The charge also outlined that Mr. Knight tried to expose Mrs. Rutter, the breeder, to cause a loss.
The allegations have been denied by Mr. Knight. He said in an interview with the Alliance: "I'm disappointed that I have been charged"
"It is beggars belief that they actually have the time and money to prosecute innocent people".
Mr. Knight, a student and volunteer with the Animal Rights Alliance, has already said he will plead not-guilty to the offence and stated that "he looked forward to his day in court". Mr. Knight is already facing another trial in September for other animal rights-related offences.
