6-8 June: Vigils for Bradley Manning in London, Chester and Brisbane

WISE Up for Bradley Manning | 04.06.2012 22:52 | Afghanistan | Iraq | Terror War

Bradley Manning is back in court in Fort Meade, Maryland, US this week for a further motions (pre-trial) hearing. Solidarity vigils will be held on 6 June in Chester, England and in Brisbane, Australia and on 8 June in London (and possibly Exeter, to be confirmed). There will also be vigils at Fort Meade and elsewhere around the world. Consider holding a 'Free Bradley Manning' vigil wherever you are.

CHESTER VIGIL

under the clock on Eastgate Street, Chester.

BRISBANE VIGIL
(organised by London Catholic Worker abroad Ciaron O'Reilly)

From 4pm - 6pm, Wednesday 6 June,
at the Supreme Court, George St., Brisbane.

LONDON VIGIL

From 3pm, Friday 8 June,
outside the US Embassy, Grosvenor Square, London.

WHY VIGIL?

Bradley Manning has already been held for two years by the US, tortured for 11 months and denied his constitutional rights. This is extra-judicial punishment. His supposed crime? Exposing the truth about the wars being fought in our names by releasing hundreds of thousands of documents to WikiLeaks, bringing unprecedented transparency to the machinations of Empire and revealing war crimes that had previously been covered up.

Bradley Manning has Welsh and Irish roots. He lived and went to school in Wales as a teenager; members of his maternal family still live there; his grandfather was from Dublin. Individuals and groups involved in the WISE Up network have been acting in solidarity with Bradley Manning and we encourage everyone who opposes the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, who supports transparency, free speech and whistle blowing to join us.
