Shift Magazine is closing shop
Shift Magazine | 03.06.2012 10:52 | Other Press | South Coast | World
It is with a heavy heart that the Shift Editorial Team are announcing our decision to close the magazine down for the foreseeable future. We hope to incorporate some reflections on this move as part of our next and final issue (Issue 15). Ordinarily due for publication in May, Issue 15 is now scheduled for release in September and we are seeking articles to fill its pages. Send pitches to: shiftmagazine@hotmail.co.uk.

Ordinarily due for publication in May, Issue 15 is now scheduled for release in September and we are seeking articles to fill its pages. Here at Shift we have always sought to ask the difficult, uncomfortable questions, what are the questions we need to be asking now? If you have ideas for articles send pitches to shiftmagazine@hotmail.co.uk. We’ll also be contacting all subscribers to the magazine soon to arrange closing their subscriptions.
Thanks as ever for all the support.

Any first year politics student will tell you during times of financial prosperity the electorate swings to the Right, at a time of recession, national austerity and wage freezes they turn to the Left. In the midst of the worst economic crises in fifty years you still couldn't sell the magazine !!!!!
Time to ask the difficult questions I would say.

Comments above not the comments of members of the Shift Editorial Team

It's the Shift teams policy that generally we don't get involved in the comments section on indymedia. After all, if you wrestle with pigs you both get dirty but the pig loves it.
The comments above aren't from any of the Shift team and any comments beneath wont be either. We haven't recieved any donations recently and all our subscribers will be having their subsrciptions refunded.
As for selling Shift, we've been steadily increasing our print run and selling almost all of them each time over the past year. Our statement in our final issue will clarify our reasons for the decision.
Thanks for all the positive comments we've recieved so far.

There are anti-Zionists who use anti-Semitism instrumentally, and there are those that don't. Most don't. Some do, very plainly. Shift was perfectly right to say as much - that the distinction is important to note and maintain, and that anti-Zionists who fall into patterns of essentializing "the Jews" in a demonizing way or promoting Holocaust denial are bringing bigotry into their cause.
It's not a surprise that those anti-Zionists who do in fact see no problem with demonizing "the Jews" or spread neo-Nazi propaganda are bothered when someone calls out what they're up to, and are left grumblng under their breath about "soft zionist porn" rather than engaging in any actual useful self-examination on the topic.
