Anti Vivisectionist Activists take to the streets to say NO to animal testing inside newcastle death labs
With one voice we told Newcastle university death labs Vivisection is a LIE so WHY HAVE THE ANIMALS GOT TO DIE
With one voice we told Newcastle university death labs Vivisection is a LIE so WHY HAVE THE ANIMALS GOT TO DIE
Yesterday (May 26th) saw 60-70 activists from all over the UK attending the National March and Rally Against Newcastle’s Death Labs.
With Banners, placards and posters activists took to the streets to protest and say “Close Newcastle Animal Lab”. Setting off from ‘The Centre of Life’ and Marching through the heart of Newcastle activists chanted “close Newcastle animal lab” and “vivisection is a lie why have the animals got to die”. The campaigners were cheered and clapped on with the public showing utmost support for our campaign against the vile death labs.
People were horrified to find out Newcastle University were responsible for and complacent in the deaths of thousands of poor defenceless animals every single year. The public were even more shocked to find out the Newcastle lab uses primates – this horrified and shocked people!
The activists arrived at Kings Gate Business and Student Services department to hold a rally at Professor Chris Brinks’ (university vice chancellor) door.
Dr Adrain Stallwood from Animal Aid addressed the crowd first:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=hKQ_eRwNiWg
Then our very own Jon Procer spoke to the crowd :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=YYbFpejM7bk
Jons speech hit a sore nerve as he was heckled by a vivisector from Newcastle University making the most bizarre point ever “We dont test on puppies and dogs, we test on primates” – I mean really?
Tino Verducci spoke about the green hills campaign and how to help animal liberation world wide.
Then a speaker from Manchester Animal Action got up and spoke about the up coming demonstration against Manchester University.
After the speeches, activists held a fifteen minute rally at Kings Gate with chants “Blood Blood Blood on your hands” and “VIVISECTION IS A LIE WHY HAVE THE ANIMALS GOT TO DIE “
After fifteen minutes it was time to go to the death labs, marching past all the offices, chants of “Blood blood blood on your hands” rained out.
After a ten minute march activists arrived at the Gates of Hell (ie. Newcastle University “Medical” School).
Upon arriving activists went to the main door of the labs and lit twenty two candles in commemoration to all that lost there lives inside this disgusting lab. Activists also lay flowers and lay placards then held a two minute silence.
After the two minutes silence chanting of “CLOSE NEWCASTLE ANIMAL LAB” rang out as loud as possible. Activists left Newcastle University in no doubt what we want – Close the labs!
Jon Procer then spoke about what the lab dose and how 22 thousand experiments were carried out last year inside this hell hole lab.
The rally at the gates of hell lasted about an hour then we took off back for town marching back into Newcastle city centre people clapped waived and shouted in support of what we were doing.
We marched back to the set off point holding a ten minute rally with closing speeches and thanking every one for coming.
Around twenty of us then headed for a nice vegan meal at Jack Sprats vegan cafe *
http://www.jackspratscafe.co.uk/* and a social event.

For "Why so few"
28.05.2012 06:50
Do YOU have any ideas of how to boost support ?
One of 'Close Newcastle Animal Lab '
Why is AR support declining in the UK ?
28.05.2012 08:09
1 Good PR control by the State and Pharma companies, we were portrayed and described as "extremists' on such a regular basis that the idea stuck in the public mind.
2 Medical arguments, the overwhelming majority of people think that vivisection is justifiable in the treatment of disease despite what we of course know. We have failed to get the truth over.
3 Infighting, the arguments between factions (encouraged I'm sure by State agents and infiltrators) weakened several groups like SHAC who were beginning to win.
4 Harsh prison sentences. Prison lengths that were way out of proportion to the so called offences scared a lot of people off and reduced a willingness to take part in actions.
5 Leadership - Key people locked up and when released tagged and forced to live without contact or involvement in AR work. These were the individuals who drove the movement and now there are really none doing that.

Why I stopped
28.05.2012 08:37
In my personal capacity
SHAC is winning !!!
28.05.2012 08:55
SHAC is a strong growing campaign that is very, very close to closing HLS
However we have very limited resources and the persecution by the governments in both the UK and USA has depleted our reserves so financial contributions are welcome to help the work. SHAC always wins because we never give up.
Until all are free

Protests are limited and get little attention, if not more so because of particular individuals in the protest like Jon act dogmatic and patronising to the point that it loses public support. Re think your strategies and keep your distance from Jon.

Re: "Why no support"
28.05.2012 11:20
AR work was fine before the cuts and financial crises that is seeing people lose their jobs, homes and futures. Don't get me wrong, AR is important but simply not as important as other things and as much as we all claim we support multiple groups, ideas and issues the reality is we tend to concentrate on one or two. For me this is Climate Change and the No Cuts movement any AR work I once did has been sidelined for the time being. I would imagine others feel the same.
It's all about choices at the end of the day and what I have chosen simply matters more to me.
No to the cuts !

Pointless name calling
28.05.2012 11:29
Of course we could also follow the fantasy viewpoint of SHAC where the say above,
"SHAC is a strong growing campaign that is very, very close to closing HLS"
Does anybody really believe any part of that statement ?
Jan
Another example
28.05.2012 12:19
See what I mean.
As long as those organising marches are claiming massive success every time regardless of what happened we will never improve. 60-70 people for a march of this kind is a failure whatever way you look at it and putting the blame on a Veggie festival is just silly. It was not that long ago we would see 400-500 for a march like this.
We need to improve our media strategy, enlist the help of more mainstream individuals for talking to the media (multi-coloured dreads, bad clothes and an attitude problem play nicely into the hands of lazy journos). Money needs to be spent on handouts that tell the truth about the medical case for vivisection.
One last thing calling those of us that are trying to help names and accusing us of being shacwatch doesn't help.

28.05.2012 12:42
70-80 people is an unheard off number of supporters for a regional march of this type and I'm sure others in animal rights and anti vivisection groups can only dream of having this level of support.
We did great.

Why the accusations of "trolling" ?
28.05.2012 12:51
When the leaders of SHAC were sent to prison some individuals who were once middle ranking suddenly found themselves in positions where they had access to the substantial funds raised through street collections in the name of animal welfare. They are working very hard to protect this income and the lifestyle it affords them and as a consequence those true AR people who care about animals and not the money have been under attack for attempting to expose the scandal.
Indymedia UK which in theory is an open reporting newswire for the activist community has a number of SHAC/AR friendly editors as part of the organising collective running the site and they have worked hard to quickly remove any articles which make clear these incidents.
Articles critical of SHAC/AR are dealt with by following an established pattern, the poster is labeled a "Troll", this is a catch all phrase that Indymedia editors use when they do not like what has been said, the poster is ridiculed and a number of regular posters write replies calling them liars. After about 24 hours the post is first hidden and then removed altogether from the Indymedia archive so it cannot be seen by anybody. If this action is commented on then the reponse is to refer to it as "disinformation". Evidence of "trolling" or "disinformation" is never given and communicaiton on the subject blocked.
When a lot of money is at stake people do bad things.

We need to move on, this march shows how we can still get people on the streets, how the support for the abolition of vivisection is almost immediate once people understand the facts, how widespread the support is once the whole 'extremist' myth is put to bed with FACTS. Muckraking over financial issues from five years ago helps nobody, lets focus on the animals and their suffering.

Muck-raking
28.05.2012 14:09
In private SHAC insiders admit the truth but they will not in any public forum and that's why people are still unhappy about this today. This issue has been swatted away far too often for my liking and if SHAC is still asking for donations (see post above) then they have a responsibility to say where the money is going. I for one know that Gerrah visited the house in March for a holiday just after she got out and yet we see no reference to it on the SHAC website or in the newsletter.
The property was bought with money that I along with thousands of others gave in the belief it would be used for helping animals and in the fight to close HLS. We were tricked at the very least.

Stage Two - hide all posts which ask the difficult questions
Stage Three - hide the posts in the admin section so they cant be seen under 'View All Posts'
Stage Four - Label any questions or comments about the hiding as 'disinformation'
Stage Five - Pretend none of the above happened.
