Palestine Place is Coming to London (June 2012)

PalestinePlace | 18.05.2012 16:59 | Free Spaces | Palestine | Social Struggles

An act of solidarity and resistance will soon implant itself in the heart of the capital. From June 2nd Palestine Place will engulf one of London's great wasted spaces and transform it into a base for workshops and actions in support of Palestine.

In the first two weeks of June this year one of central London’s lost and abandoned buildings will be reclaimed and transformed into a radical centre for discussion, action, and education around the issue of Palestinian rights. Palestine Place will be a squatted hub of activity from the 2nd-17th June. Expect films, discussions, music, performances, workshops, lectures and training (full programme to be released nearer the time).

We invite everyone to come and explore the issues, be it for the first time or to bring your experience and knowledge. Please join us in organising events, gathering equipment, assisting fundraising and most importantly come and take part in the space in whatever way you can. Contact  palestineplace@riseup.net to find out more, to get involved or to inquire about running an event.

Why Palestine Place and why now?

The 64 year long struggle against Israeli apartheid and violence continues today, with 1600 Palestinians on hunger strike in Israeli jails in early May 2012. Meanwhile, the state of Israel is supported by London’s powerful political elite who continue to ignore the voices of millions across the world calling for an end to Israeli apartheid.

Grass roots activists the world over, and right here in London, are fighting in solidarity with Palestine people to reclaim an agenda of liberation, equality and justice lead by the people for the people.

Participants in Palestine Place are unified on three basic demands, voiced by Palestinian civil society in their call for a boycott of Israel (BDS Movement call of 2005):

• An end to the occupation and colonisation of all Arab lands occupied since 1967.
• Equal Rights for Palestinian Citizens of Israel (1948 Palestine).
• Respecting, protecting, and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their lands as stipulated in UN Resolution 194.

We are many different people with many different ideas and backgrounds but we come together around these three core principles which are the foundations of “Palestine Place”.

These are the foundations but Palestine Place can happen anywhere; we call for all those who support Palestiniansto create these places of resistance wherever they are.

See you in Palestine Place!
