Today activists from across the East Midlands converged on Glen Parva in Leicester to protest one of the last few remaining circuses that continue to use animals.
Forcing animals like tigers, camels and zebras to perform tricks in circuses is condemned as totally unnecessary cruelty by the RSPCA, the British veterinary association and all respected animal charities, welfare organisations and sanctuaries.
Public opinion is also very strongly against the practice with a recent DEFRA consultation revealing that 94% of the public wish to see a total ban on the use of wild animals in circuses.
Even parliament agrees with a landslide vote in favour of such a ban almost a year ago now.
Democracy does not prevail however, with David Cameron as largely a lone voice successfully blocking the motion.
One has to wonder what the point in elected representatives is when a landslide vote in parliament can be flatly ignored, and how exactly such a status quo differs from a dictatorship?
