Uhuru News invites listeners and readers worldwide to tune in for 2 days of special programming during its 2012 Spring Radiothon. For over 40 years, The Burning Spear newspaper has served as the voice of the international African revolution. The oldest Black Power journal in continuous publication since the 1960s, The Spear is now available online at UhuruNews.com, along with live radio and video broadcasts from throughout the world.



Uhuru News invites listeners and readers worldwide to tune in for 2 days of special programming during its 2012 Spring Radiothon. For over 40 years, The Burning Spear newspaper has served as the voice of the international African revolution. The 2-day Radiothon will be videocast live on UhuruNews.com and aims to raise $15,000 for the work of the African People’s Socialist Party’s Department of Agitation and Propaganda, including Uhuru News and Radio, and The Burning Spear newspaper. It’s part of a year-long series of events recognizing the 40th year of visionary and consistent leadership on the part of the Party, which was formed in the U.S. in 1972.

The 20 hours of live broadcasting will kick-off on May 5th with “Caribbean Forum”, hosted by award-winning actor and journalist Ron Bobb-Semple. He’ll be talking live with the popular Guyana-born actress CCH Pounder, President of the Caribbean Media Exchange Bevan Springer, black media legend and griot Imhotep Gary Byrd, and Senegalese art historian Babacar M'bow. Babacar M’bow is a leader in the work to protect historical African artifacts. He has contributed 2 beautiful books on contemporary Haitian art as gifts for donors to the Radiothon pledge drive.

Next, viewers on Saturday will be treated to a special episode of “African Resistance Now! hosted by International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement president and recent Philadelphia mayoral candidate Diop Olugbala, followed by a new UhuruRadio.com music show “Revolutions Per Minutes”, hosted by North Carolina-based jazz aficionado Andrew Calhoun.

Another feature of the broadcast on Saturday, May 5th is a spotlight on Black Star Industries an emerging worldwide African controlled economic network and a discussion about African self-reliance opportunities. The day will close out with a Lingala-French multi-lingual program hosted by Congolese activists from Belgium and Germany.

The Sunday, May 6th online videocast begins with a special episode of “Omali Yeshitela Speaks”, the regular UhuruRadio.com show that each week broadcasts a recent or historical presentation by African Socialist International Chairman Omali Yeshitela. The Radiothon broadcast of this show will be hosted by veteran APSP Secretary General Gaida Kambon, who will present video excerpts of Chairman Omali’s talks representing key ideological advances and strategic leadership in the African liberation struggle.

During a special joint two-hour feature of “Africa Live” and “KiriKiri Nigeria” APSP Agitprop Director Nyabinga Dzimbahwe and co-host Olufemi Ijebuode will present video and discussion to reveal the Party’s 40 years of political leadership in the worldwide anti-imperialist struggle as evidenced by its impact on various national liberation struggles as well as in popular culture from San Diego to London, Bahamas to Sierra Leone, and Philadelphia to South Africa.

African People’s Solidarity Committee Chairwoman Penny Hess will host a special episode of “Reparations in Action!” Award-winning broadcaster Norman (Otis) Richmond aka Jalali will host a special episode of “Diasporic Music”, an all-African mix of music and politics, “made in the West but not of the West”. Jalali’s special guests will include Jesse Belvin Jr.

“Rendezvous Avec Omali Yeshitela”, the English-French bi-lingual interview program hosted by African Socialist International Secretary General Luwezi Kinshasa from London will return to UhuruRadio.com’s airwaves, and a special program showcasing the legacy of the African People’s Socialist Party’s first 40 years will be hosted by APSP’s National Recruitment Director Chimurenga Waller.

The All-African People’s Development and Empowerment Proejct will host a program showcasing the organization’s work around the world, and will feature a live discussion with Nurse-Midwife Mary Koroma who leads the group’s initiatives in Sierra Leone.

The 2-day Radiothon will end with a delightful mix of music and talk during a special episode of “Golden Sunday Sounds”, hosted by Ron Bobb-Semple with special guest Chairman Omali Yeshitela.
