CARDIFF EVENTS

Tim Price's play 'The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning', currently touring Wales, places Bradley firmly in the Welsh radical tradition. It so happens that Dic Penderyn, a young man who was framed following the 1831 Merthyr Rising, was hanged at the age of 23 just a few yards from where we will be taking action on Tuesday 24th to draw attention to Bradley's situation and calling for his freedom. No more martyrs!

In the evening, there will be a 'special sneak preview' screening of Jim Spione's Oscar nominated short documentary 'Incident in New Baghdad' in Cardiff in Cardiff University (Cttee Rm 1, Glamorgan Building), jointly organised by the United Nations Association Cardiff & District and CND Cymru and sponsored by the Cardiff University Centre for Applied Ethics.

This film tells the story of Ethan McCord, a US soldier on the ground during the 'Collateral Murder' incident, who rescued two seriously injured children from the van where their father had been killed. Traumatised by the experience and refused appropriate help and support, Ethan eventually left the military suffering from PTSD. In April 2010, he saw the Collateral Murder footage on TV after it was released by WikiLeaks and was inspired to start speaking publicly about the reality of the wars waged by the US around the world.

Bradley Manning's court hearing starts MONDAY 23rd

20.04.2012 10:26

The US Army has changed the start of next week's hearing from Tuesday to
Monday. Of course this means almost no supporters, and very few media will
be in the courtroom for the start of the hearing (which is still scheduled
to continue through Thursday). The military announced a couple of days ago
in a press release that the hearing would start "Tuesday, April 23" -- as
Tuesday is actually the 24th, everyone assumed this was simply a typo.

* We're trying to get at least a couple of folks in the courtroom on Monday
to observe.
* We'll get a press advisory out tomorrow highlighting this

Related, Attorney David Coombs has published the majority of court documents
that will be at the center of next week's hearing.

Court start date 24th after all

21.04.2012 08:14

See below:

This morning, the Army and David Coombs both clarified/confirmed that the
hearing will in fact begin Tuesday, April 24 as scheduled.

Somewhere along the line, one of the parties (judge/prosecution/defense)
began referring to the start date as "Tuesday, April 23", and that mis-date
was repeated by the Army Public Affairs office in their press release. Then
the "April 23-26" started to be used as short-hand (including by Coombs
yesterday), but still in reference to Tuesday.

Anyway, it underscores the lack of factual accuracy released by Army POA.
