SHAC - AstraZeneca week of action: Report & video from London stunt demo

SHAC | 10.04.2012 20:40 | SHAC | Animal Liberation

On Tuesday 27th March, SHAC London staged a few stunt demos as part of the AstraZeneca March Madness week of action.

A few activists wearing t-shirts with the AZ logo and the words “AstraZeneca animal abusers” on them and fake blood smeared across their faces, made their way to the first target of the day; BlackRock, alongside a giant ‘injured rabbit’.
As they walked up the paved area in front of the UK HQ, the activists and rabbit began to collapse, one by one.
Within a minute or so, there was a trail of ‘corpses’ leading up to the entrance doors.
As the BlackRock staff became aware of what was happening outside their building, they looked on with a mixture of bemusement, intrigue and shock.
However, upon closer inspection the staff (and members of the public walking past) were able to read the placards that were laid out near the bodies, explaining BlackRock and AstraZeneca’s involvement in the bloody vivisection industry at HLS.
After activists were sure that there was no doubt as to why they were there, or what their ‘deaths’ related to, they moved on to the next location.

The second target of the day was Legal & General, another shareholder of AstraZeneca.
This time, activists surrounded the pavement outside the main entrance, with the injured humans slouched against the nearby bollards and the rabbit sprawled across the entrance.
With this area being a busy thoroughfare, there were many City workers walking past the demonstration, many of which stopped to read the placards, look at the activists ‘injuries’ and take photos of the gory scene that had unfolded outside of L&G’s office.
As the stunt was taking place outside the windowed front of Legal & General’s reception, the staff and visitors inside could be seen staring out at the protest, clearly distracted by the company’s dirty secrets being highlighted so visually.

A while later, the demo moved onto Axa’s Investment Managers office (activists thought they’d appreciate being surprised at a different office to usual).
Once there, the dying humans let out screams of pain, before collapsing just in front of the building.
However, the rabbit struggled through long enough to attempt to hop towards the doorway and beseech the staff for help, but before they had chance, their injuries overcame them and they too fell to the floor.
After a few minutes of fitting and yelping, the rabbit finally laid motionless like the humans.
This location had a lot of tourists wandering past, along with the City workers and staff from Axa itself.
Dozens of people stopped to look and take photos of the bodies and placards.
Eventually, a confused copper arrived on the scene, but after ambling around for a few minutes looking from the activists, to the Axa sign above the entrance and then back to the activists again, he finally decided to stand across the road contemplating the situation (or when his next tea break would be…).

Sometime later, after making sure the stunts had the intended impact upon the staff and public, the activists finished the actions for the day.

AstraZeneca can be certain that there will be plenty more future stunt actions against them however, whilst they continue to contract work to HLS.
While AZ continue to keep the scummy vivisectors inside Huntingdon Life Sciences in business, SHAC will continue to highlight their bloody involvement.

In one word, "money". Once the money started to roll in and certain people realised they could live off donations full time the focus of the campaign changed to concentrate on keeping that income stream active.

The house in France being the final example of money donated for the animals being used for other things under the justification that the people living there are, "writing a book about the struggle"

There are much better campaigns that focus their time and money on animals and not people's expenses. The work being done now by Luke Steele is what I support as he gets results.

Beagle, the link you provide to the Metrolink proves the point that the poster here makes, other AR groups are making a real difference, stopping animal abuse and making a difference while SHAC insiders sit back and take the money while doing nothing for the animals.

11.04.2012 10:14

Ignore the state repression and listen to the anonymous unsubstantiated accusations which also appear on the SHACWatch site. You know it makes sense.

In this 'movement' we operate best by attacking those who the state is after, and stabbing activists in the back.

That is definitely the way to beat the ruling class and save the planet.

In fact if you find the evidence compelling, why not visit the source and get it direct from the horses mouth?

http://shacwatch.blogspot.co.uk/, after all "SHACWATCH will provide that balance."

NB no horses mouths were actually injured in the production of this comment.

Bizarre

11.04.2012 16:34

Had a brief look at Shacwatch, the site ‘Greg’s ghost’ claims they were not aware of. It says that SHAC’s campaign has no effect. If that is the case why would anyone set up a site to oppose an ineffective organisation? Would any sane sensible intelligent person rationalise their action in that way? I doubt it. Shacwatch also says it is neither for or against vivisection so why would they oppose on any basis an organisation that does oppose vivisection? Do the people behind Shacwatch oppose any other group on another issue they are neither for or against?

There is also one aspect of the site page which is cheap and bitchy and probably tells you more about the infantile individual(s) running the site than anything else.

Can someone from Shacwatch come on here and say how Shacwatch has been effective in it’s aim?

£16 Billion to the ruling class from killing animals. Hence...

11.04.2012 17:07

Shacwatch, which freely admits it couldn't give a toss about vivisection and claims to be only about SHAC, whilst actually openly celebrating a decline in AR activism and posts glowingly about the profits of animal killers and how AR activism is failing are all part of the same corporate-state disruption program we've witnessed here on IM, in the Gateway 303 posts.

Clearly they are part of the multi pronged attack on AR activism in order to prevent the loss of the £16 billion a year going to the investors in mass slaughter.

Think about this The profile of a so called 'extreemist' AR activist flys in the face of what you might expect the core beliefs of an AR activist to be. You might assume that literally they wouldn't hurt a fly , i.e. Animals have rights because they are scentient beings and deserve having their rights protected just like humans do because they are scentint beings too.

So organisations like APP which fit the paramilitary, violent, 'extreemist' profile can't be genuine animal rights activists because a genuine AR activists would suffer extreem cognitive disonance between their core beliefs and the violent actions against scentient beings they are carrying out. They would have to be suffering from extreem compartmentalisation bordering on schizophrenia to do this ( a Jungian analysis).

Clearly the violent AR groups are formed to a put people off AR activism, give AR activism a bad name, and so reduce donations and membership to AR groups, and they are clearly formed from useful idiots, authoritarians and Corporate and state infiltrators.

The lesson to be learned is that if you are part of a campaign that hits these ruling class profiteers in mass death where it hurts them, then expect to be severely fucked over by these psychotic agents of the corporate-state.

SHACWATCH and London Indymedia

11.04.2012 17:28

Lol at this post:  http://shacwatch.blogspot.co.uk/2009/03/london-indymedia-take-stand.html

"Re London Indymedia blocking SHAC.

This has been an issue that the majority of the London Indymedia moderators have been talking about for some time in private but it has now come out into the open. The famous SHAC / Indymedia cross poster Lynn Sawyer has been red in the face with rage trying to get this policy changed but her strident emails have had the opposite effect, indeed one London administrator stated in an email to others,

"I'm begining to understand what it must be like to be an executive with an HLS supplier, the SHAC people just bombard you with their demands and then issue threats when you don't agree with them. I have to say I find it very unpleasant. I am inclined to always resist this type of tactic as a matter of principle" "

Great news - the world needs to hear less of Loony Lyn. Except, the appology she owes all thsoe she has decived over the years.

Until ALL are caged.

If you google the text of the alleged email, there is no record of it on any other site than SHACWATCH.

Now would anyone believe that members of the London Indymedia Collective would identity more closely with the executives of HLS suppliers than with activists? And say so publicly?

The alleged content of the email was initially posted as a comment on this post:

Email leaked

12.04.2012 12:04

I think the poster above has missed the point of the London Indymedia email leak which Shacwatch published here:
 http://shacwatch.blogspot.co.uk/2009/03/london-indymedia-take-stand.html

London IMC were unhappy at the reaction they had received from certain elements of the Animal Rights world to a plan that would have seen SHAC posts blocked on the site. As this was a private email that was leaked to Shacwatch it's no surprise that it appears nowhere else on the net.

There is some belief that Shacwatch received info after the January 2009 seizure of an Indymedia server 'Strummer' in Manchester, England. How and by whom they received this info is a matter of some concern.

The shacwatch site

12.04.2012 13:38

The Shacwatch blog has certainly been the recipient of 'inside information' regarding the UK AR movement, this may have come from the police, private security companies in the pay of HLS or individuals within SHAC / AR but the source frankly does not matter. We do however need to face up to some of the information that has been revealed there rather than turning a blind eye and hoping it goes away.

The funding of SHAC was always a little murky with first Greg then Tom Harris having control of the bank accounts which are mostly offshore in Jersey, the money that was allocated to individuals allowing them to work full time for SHAC was mostly in the form of 'gifts' so there was little oversight outside of the inner circle. The cottage at Rouen in France may well be justified as an investment but deciding to hide details of the purchase from those who funded it was a mistake.

SHAC needs to be open and honest about where its money is spent, who works full time for the cause (and what are they paid) and what other property investments does the organisation have ?

I support SHAC

13.04.2012 17:29

...I genuinely do, I think the work it has done does loads to highlight the suffering and murder and torture that HLS is involved in and SHAC also works to show up the companies involved in funding and supporting HLS - all that is to be supported and congratulated.

However, it is my personal opinion (troll disclaimer: 'my personal opinion') that the only way to make HLS suffer, and ultimately to lead to their demise, is to hit them where it hurts: kill their profits. Unless an action intends to hurt their profits, then it will only be a symbolic gesture to the animal lib movement, a way of saying 'we did this to say we're still here' and to get some more public on side. like i said, those actions are still needed, so im not taking anything away, rather im saying HLS need to be killed off, starved of profits, their profit channels killed and destroyed. I'm using these words on purpose, as they are the words that best describe what is needed.

If I could, I'd wipe HLS off the planet....but I do not have the means (and these days for various reasons, also lack the true motivation) to do it, so until that day comes when they can be closed forever, well done to all involved, although hand on heart, i wish the ALF/affiliated comrades would fuck them off for good......

HLS' profits between 2008 - 2010

15.04.2012 19:30

Here's some figures from HLS'own accounts:

Profit for the year

2008: £6,859,000
2009: £4,402,000 (-35% compared to 2008)
2010: £2,025,000 (-54% compared to 2009)

HLS are struggling with the recession, time to finish them off. Get out into the streets and into the night...
