Save Leyton Marsh day of action Saturday 14th April

Save Leyton Marsh | 10.04.2012 17:07

Get down to Leyton Marsh this Saturday the 14th of April from 11am for a day of action to stop the building of a permanent (they say temporary) basket ball court on the Leyton Marshes. Spread the word, lets get hundreds if not thousands of people down.

The construction of a basket ball court on Leyton Marshes is totally illegal under planning regulations as all of the Lea Valley Park which Leyton Marshes is part of it protected public open space. On Saturday the 14th of April we intend to force all construction work to stop permanently. We will do this by sheer weight of numbers. Tell everyone on Twitter and Facebook to get down to Leyton Marshes this Saturday the 14th of April from 11am onwards.

don't forget there is a big meeting to discuss practical resistance to the Olympics at Bishopsgate Institute from 11am to 4.30 on the same day, having been called quite a long time ago... Maybe to the marshes afterwards?

This is far more urgent and we are not against the Olympics as such

This event though is far more urgent and also we are not against the Olympics as such. We are only against the Olympics being used to flout planning laws and their negative impact on local communities. Our aim to is to save a popular supposedly legally protected public open space from illegal development. Local people fought long and hard for many years to preserve open spaces such as Hampstead Heath and the open spaces of the Lea Valley such Leyton Marshes and Hackney Marshes for future generations to enjoy.

tomorrow

We understand that a 'day of action' has been called for tomorrow (Saturday 14th
April) in the name of the Save Leyton Marsh Group. The Save Leyton Marsh Group has
not called for a 'day of action' tomorrow and is unable to verify who exactly is
calling people to action.

Anyone who goes in the vicinity of the site should read the High Court Injunction
posted there, which applies to anybody, regarding obstruction of work and
deliveries and banning the unauthorised entering of the site. The Injunction will
expire on 18th April when it is assumed that ODA will resubmit their claim and
there will be the opportunity to oppose it at a High Court case and we believe some
people are preparing a case along those lines
