Trafalgar12 activists are due in Westminster Magistrates' Court, hoping to create a legal precedent that will confine the powers Section 12.5 of the POA.
On the 9th of November, during the Student Protest, a group of activists, unrelated to that demonstration, set up an Occupy camp in Trafalgar Square. They remained there for about one hour and were later arrested and charged with Section 12.5 of the Public Order Act. This has been the excuse used to arrest a large number of protesters over the years, some of which have claimed guilty and others have had their charges dropped. At the moment there is no further legislation setting the limits of Section 12.5, which is simply unacceptable, since for one, has enabled the police to arrest people retroactively (that is, long after they have left the route of the protest, as it's happened to the Trafalgar12 Activists). The activists, represented by Bindmans will be in court on the 4th, 5th, 10th and 17th of April, with the objectve of creating a legal precedent that will confine the powers Section 12.5 of the POA.Court starts on the 4th of April at Westminster Magistrates' Court at 10 a.m. Public support and media presence are of utmost importance for the precedent we're trying to set. hgfhgf
