Oranges and Warfare - Greece

Oranges or arms - economic and other violence

On Greek Independence Day 1000s of police are mobilised in Athens ahead of the Independence Day Parade. They fear anti-austerity protestors anger against the EU/IMF imposed austerity cuts.

The authorities have gone as far as removing oranges from trees that may be used to pelt politicians!

One area though that does not seem affected by the cuts ( just like Portugal ) is that of arms spending. Sarkozy, Merkel ( and 'Dodgy Dave' Cameron ) are insisting they cough up for:-

France:- 3 BILLION quid - Frigates
UK:- 3.3 Billion Typhhon Jets
Deustchland:- 1.5 BILLION - U boats.

None of the above figures include bribes paid out to officials.
Population around 10 million. Now work out how the money could be better spent...

...and just who are the Greek (and Portugese) authorities going to attack then? Protesters armed with oranges apparently.
