Even Costa Fortuna sinking.

Costa Fortuna as Costa  Concordia. Today we discover a secret incident occurred in 2005.

"I received threats for  my  photos of ship that  does bowing" says the photographer of the Costa  Crociere. "I did all the photos. In the ship there was a serious opening of at least ten meters". In the spring of 2005, Roberto Cappello was the photographer on board the Costa Fortuna, and decides to tell his story, contained in the investigation papers on the tragedy of Concordia, to site  Affaritaliani.it: "We had just left the port of Naples. Near the coast of Sorrento, there was a strong turn and we have  felt a sharp blow under the ship. "There were damages? "I went down with an officer under the keel. He had a broken propeller blade".

And  the  Photo? “They threatened and kidnapped me. I handed over the cards and I have nothing left". Cappello, who is a professional photographer, says he decided to talk now   because of “ the sinking of the Giglio has awakened in me the memory.  Then not there were consequences, but the danger was there ".

THE INTERVIEW

In the records of the investigation into the tragedy of the Costa Concordia are also your claims on a case some years ago that you can compare, with appropriate action, that of Giglio. Can you tell the story?

"It was June of 2005, and aboard the Costa Fortuna. I was on the ship as a photographer on board. We approached the coast of Sorrento, then while we were leaving the ship has suffered a heeling very sudden. He heard a loud bang. After that I realized that the ship proceeded at a rate a little 'suspect. When we arrived at the port of Palermo we had to wait two hours in the Port. The passengers were loaded on the platform and wait for it to be lifted from the water dry dock. I and my fellow photographer we were under the keel to take pictures. There was a cut long enough and deep".

How long and deep?

"I would say as deep as a arm and long ten meters".

There had been other damage?

"Yes, I realized that was also damaged the left propeller. There were some workmen of Fincantieri that were repairing".

How did you get in the keel and take pictures?

“had asked to  me a security officer of the ship. He called us and gave us the leggings, overalls and all equipment. Then we went with him under the keel. We saw the big cut and he made ??us take pictures. I do not know if they were memorable photos or whatever. When he saw that I had a journalist card feared that I sold the photos to some newspaper and then it happened all the mess".

What mess?

"I returned to the ship and I was beginning to dump  the files of the photos. At one point, the same officer sent me a notice saying that he wanted to see me personally. He wanted the consegnassi all the photos and threatened to make me land".

So they have taken all the pictures?

"Yes, yes. The pics were taken, and I stupidly I handed the card and I have more nothing"

And you stayed on the ship?

"No, after a few days, however, i am was unloaded for health problems. And I must say that I was also happy, I felt relieved to return to earth".

Have you had an idea about the accident?

"I think even then it was a "bow" of the ship (ship that passing very close to the coast). We were leaving the port of Naples and we were going to Ischia and Procida. About three quarters of an hour after leaving the harbor there was a violent impact. There were no  tragic consequences as in the case of Giglio Isle, however the passengers was very frightened"

How were far from the coast?

"We must have been about 200 meters, no more"

How did you decide to tell this story only now?

"The The tragedy of the Costa Concordia has awakened in me the memory of this fact. I do not even know what time were these "bows". Then I followed the story of Isle of  Giglio  and helped me to understand that I had been the protagonist of a story somewhat similar, although thankfully the ending was completely different. My words  have both the prosecutor and the Codacons of Grosseto. If they can somehow serve".

That's it. This is an accident (let's call it that) that RINA - Italian Naval Register, knows very well (there is a voluminous dossier at the headquarters of the  RINA) RINA yet on this episode (as on many others) has always been shut up , silent as a tomb. RINA has never said anything to anyone, has never sanctioned, he never complained.

A silence very, very guilty.
