Nottingham Occupy Camp get court hearing papers

Thursday 8th March 2012

About 10 days ago,  the Nottingham City Council served a notice on the Occupy Nottingham camp. That unless they stifted by the Monday 5th March, the council said they would start proceedings.  The camp said it wouldn't be moving.

At 3pm on Thursday afternoon [8th March] Nottingham City Council officials served the court hearing papers on the Occupy camp.

The issue will be heard at 10am Tuesday 13th March at the Nottingham County Court, 60 Canal Street, Nottingham.

A degree of sharp practice is suspected by some regarding the council actions [strangely enough!!].  The papers were dated the 7th but not served until the Thursday 8th.  The notes say "If you intend to rely on any witness statements, you must file them in the court office and serve copies on all other parties no later than 2 clear working days before hearing". So, that's Friday and then Monday, and the hearing is on Tuesday. Thus it appears they try to run any opposition out of time.

Those at the camp have developed a range of arguements and are currently seeking further legal advice. I imagine the judge will be hearing more about it all on Tuesday morning ...... .  I wish them well.
