could it be fascists thinking their "protest" will be a damp squib so they are trying to hype it up?

If they can encourage antifascists to come they can then use that to encourage more fascist to turn up.

they have a facebook page with 250 saying they are attending, so it`s not a damp squib or a false alarm.

I wouldnt go there to confront or fight the NF who a generally sociopaths,so its exactly what they want,especially in this situ.

It's been argued recently that EDL, BNP, NF etc are trying to trick anti-fascists into counter-protesting against their anti-paedo demos, so they can photograph anti-fascists and (despite convicted paedo Richard Price being a senior EDL activist, etc) thereby mis-portray US as somehow "supporting" paedos. Fascists have indeed done this, posting all over Redwatch and LIBELING named anti-fascists in this way, so that aspect of the argument's a proven fact (if you look at Redwatch, use IP shielding and block cookies etc).

The argument was not that anti-fascists should necessarily ignore Fascist provocation, but that we should try and operate under the radar if and when they're trying to trick us into walking into a trap. At the end of the day you have to play situations like this by ear to a large extent, but fore-warned is fore-armed, and practical SUGGESTIONS for trying to help do this are...

1. During their demos, monitor the Fascists in mufti - ie - inconspicuously, don't let yourself get photographed, don't take banners, don't chant, obscure your face and only intervene physically if they try to attack (otherwise just leave them to the cops)

2. Try to win the battle for hearts and minds before the Fascists have even arrived on-site, with pre-emptive hostile PR strikes. If the NF are trying to convince locals only Muslims are paedos, e-mails to the local press, TV and radio, blog postings, You Tubes, general web chat and even old-fashioned photocopied leaflets and posters pointing out how many of their lot have been paedos and child-killers should help alot

250 on Facebook could mean 12 on the street, there is no way of knowing how many might turn up. I've seen EDL demos where 2,000+ said they come along and only 20 showed up

According to some Nazi posting on Stormfront "The National Front have been leafleting the town for weeks now and have an excellent candidate standing there in this Mays elections". So Anti-Fascists need to start leafletting, NOW PLEASE

& any left or other political groups that act in a undemocratic+sociopathic manner. My family from austria&e.europe supported democracy & resisted nazism & stalinism vdeeply from world war1,many died in camps etc, its likely many other social libertarians here have family who went through the same.
Yep any press release should show all the links the EDL&BPP, etc have to convicted paedophiles& it should be condemned whoever does it. Please lets start treating nazism& men like George Bush, Cheney like the sickos they are appropriately, rather than getting involved in potential violence unless its4self defence of course, libertarians socialists have a proud defenders of human rights & true democracy.
