Leading animal rights activist Luke Steele sent to prison

Leading animal rights activist Luke Steele has been sent to prison after being arrested at a demonstration in Leeds on Saturday.
It was largely as a consequence on the campaign that Luke led against B&K Universal that Tory minister Eric Pickles decided to prevent the company getting planning permission for its new breeding facility near Hull. Luke is clearly regarded by the state as a serious threat to the vivisection industry which is why such onerous bail conditions were imposed in the first place.

The reality is that Luke is disliked by SHAC activists because he has been far more effective in the past two years than they have been in the past decade.
What is known for certain is that some SHAC supporters have been responsible for smearing Luke with unfounded allegations such as this and that, to his credit, he has not responded, believing that there are other more important issues out there.

Luke is far from perfect but he is clearly regarded as a far more serious threat to the vivisection industry than SHAC which is why the police have put so much effort into getting him sent to prison and, they hope, locked up for a far longer period if he gets convicted for his involvement in the Harlan protest.

why does the animal rights movement have an obsession with hero worship, what is this - the rock and roll hall of fame?! what about all the other campaigners and activists, equally dedicated, who don't end up in prison, are they not as worthy?

Wouldn't surprise me if the self-serving little wanker didn't post this himself.

Traitor
>> Luke Steele is self-serving, thieving ego-maniac and a racist, who hangs about with local fascists and with other racists within the AR movement. His mother is a police informer and his brother a neo-nazi. A very fucked-up family indeed. Don't believe the bullshit Luke comes out with or posts on the internet, he's a pathological liar. It's shameful that the AR movement put up with him at all.

Everyone in the world cares about issues. It's only within our tiny subculture that you have to prove how much you care by going to jail over an issue. Amazing that a movement that claims to be about changing things in fact prioritises its members' persecution over the actual change. Guilt issues going into overdrive here I suspect.
We should support our comrades who go to jail to the hilt, of course we should, but we should be so SO wary of building a culture that teaches newbies that they have to go to jail first to be accepted. It should be obvious to anyone without a huge hole where their brain should be (unfortunately that rules out 95% of insurrectionary anarchists), that we shouldn't be TRYING to get locked up. I'd imagine as a convict it'd make me REALLY pissed off that the people who talk the talk about helping prisoners and ending imprisonment, the people who are meant to be shouting to the world about how horrible it is inside, have such a low opinion of how horrible it is, that they think it's a good idea to choose to do it themselves. And if I were personally congratulated on being locked up by someone claiming to be on my side, I'd be spitting blood. Really basic stuff this guys.
