Total policing: Rave on

Freedom Press | 29.01.2012 10:37 | World

A new technology is being developed that will allow police the opportunity to disperse crowds with an electronic sound system fitted to riot shields. A US company is in the process of testing the new patented device that emits a low-frequency sound which resonates with the respiratory tract, making it hard to breathe.

According to the patent, the intensity could be increased from causing discomfort to the point where targets become “temporarily incapacitated”. In the rather formal language of the testing company the riot shield uses a folded acoustic horn which is incorporated into the physical shell of the shield that can be directed at certain targets inducing both pain and physical impairment. In real terms it looks like a normal riot shield with a massive speaker tied to the front with wires.

A research expert in police ethics warned that the biggest danger is that the technology would be used for political control. “If authorities in Egypt or Syria had this, would they use it for dispersal or to shove crowds into potentially lethal harm’s way?” he asked from Leeds.

Given the new police commissioners penchant for expensive novelty devices – it was Bernard ‘Hulk’ Hogan Howe the Oxbridge graduate now in charge of the police who introduced the enormous ‘Berlin wall’ style crowd barriers onto the streets during the last student demonstration and his dedication to kettling – it won’t be long before we see the British police using the new riot shields for political purposes.

"Dis iz ze kommondant speeking...u vill now be voteeng for ze mayor as eendicated on ze large banner ve haf profided. Sank you for corporation, dismeesed.."

By the way, fitting anything to a riot shield is a really shit idea...not in the least bit surprised a yank thought of it first!!!!

More waste of money!

I do hope that the ordinary taxpayer in this country isn't expected to pay for this rubbish. Why it's obvious all the protesters have to do is not stand in front of the police lines at all. If that happens can you imagine what could happen, can you?

Concerned taxpayer

The police have enough good, effective passive and lethal weapons already. The problem is more about getting through the red tape to actually use them when needed!
