Operation Lunch - a lunch in the city

anon@indymedia.org (Operation Lunch) | 23.01.2012 20:55 | London

UK Uncut and associated members of the 99% have decided that in light of recent news about corporate tax avoidance it is only right to make our voice heard and make sure we are not left out of these lunch meetings. As such we will host a lunch meeting in the city with a major corporation.

Tax avoidance is a serious problem for the UK, see here the TUC report "The missing billions" ( http://www.tuc.org.uk/touchstone/Missingbillions/1missingbillions.pdf). Tax avoidance is reported to cost the UK £25 billion, this is money that could be spent on ensuring that our schools, hospitals and other public services do not have to be hit at a time when the government is insisting their is only one option, cuts!

To add to this disgrace HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs) have been making "sweet heard deals" with companies in private lunch meetings, covered here in the Guardian ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011/dec/20/inland-revenue-sweetheart-tax-deals?intcmp=239) and here in the original committee report ( http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201012/cmselect/cmpubacc/1531/1531.pdf).

It is immoral that companies be let off without paying their fair share of tax and that the public have no say in this. This is why we want to try and change this practice, this Wednesday on the 25th of January we will host a lunch in the city and everyone is invited.

We shall meet at the steps of St Pauls, here the location of the lunch will be disclosed so that we can each make our own way to our lunch meeting.

Here is your invite:

UK Uncut cordially invites you for a luncheon for a chat with a transnational company on corporate tax policies.

Our lovely government have been having frequent lunch meetings with major corporations relieving them of their tax responsibilities. However it is our opinion that the public should not be excluded from such luncheon meetings. Therefore we hope that you will join us on the 25th so we can clarify the misconceptions of major corporations’ tax responsibilities.

Lets remind major corporations that they owe us more than £25 billion in tax - money that could make the recent cuts to pensions, education, and healthcare unnecessary. To us it seems terribly impolite that we are paying for the crisis that they have caused.

UK Uncut kindly asks guests to bring their own food as caviar for this meeting will not be provided by the British taxpayers.
