Please post details here - not everyone uses facebook!

Please, please don't just post an article with a facebook link: those of us who don't use it have no access to the information;

why not make the article more informative on imc? It is better indexed by search engines like google which means people searching for info about the gig can find it here;

Who is playing?
Which performers are on at what time?
Should people bring something to the event?
Will there be food and refreshments?
Will there be other performances such as fire dancers, drum circles, other hippy crap?

You get the picture?

Or if the info is available on an accessible web site, post the address to IMC too!

Facebook tracks you even if you don't log in

30.12.2011 13:32

I tend to avoid visiting Facebook links at all, since they will track you even if you don't have a login. They are believed to have "hidden profiles" of non-members, so that if you do decide to join in the future, they have a profile ready and waiting for you.

They also hide their spy code on numerous other websites (those "Like" Facebook images you see everywhere) so they can track where you go when you aren't on Facebook. I use an adblocker to block these as much as possible.

Remember with Facebook, Google, and all the other "free" services, you aren't the customer, you are the product, being sold to the real customers, who are the advertisers. Sure, Facebook is convenient, but it can easily come back to bite you in the future. Just look at the way the EDL morons air their dirty laundry in public and reveal too much personal information to the world.

Thats about the size of it.

Google is bad with this too. Google, like Facebook, considers all users of the internet to be either free users or paid for users and sub divides the internet accordingly. Google IS NOT your freind.

Don't use freebies provided by these companies and that includes Gmail. Gmail will allow your email box to be opened up to Google which will track every link you click and every email you send. It claims that the tracking is anonymous but that can easily change if they decide to take an interest in you, which is incredibly easy given that you yourself are providing the data they need to take an interest!

The big get out of jail card they use is to say that "if you have nothing to hide...then you have nothing to fear" but that's garbage. For myself, I have plenty to hide when it comes to the human rights abusing US of A so have very good reason to want to hide as much of my business from it as possible. This does not make me a criminal...but it does make me very careful not to use tools provided by the criminal US government so it can monitor what I am doing.

In the globalised world, these tools are the eyes and ears of the US Government.
