Most of the tents blew down and were destroyed by the recent storms. So why don't people at these camps build strong benders instead of living in flimsy tents that will not stand up to anything more than a light wind? Yurts are quite strong too as these are used in very inhospitable parts of the world where weather conditions are extremely harsh. Unless you use a 250 pound costing mountain tent made by the North Face or Terra Nova then it is not going to stand up to strong winds. So the best and cheapest option is to use strongly built benders and yurts. These are also much warmer than tents in winter.
