Ken Livingstone may not want to admit it but Housing and slum housing are threatening peoples’ lives in London in a phenomenal way that was inevitable when looking at the failures of the GLC and the “partner” boroughs in inner London to face up to the crisis as it was building up. The GLC failed. The inner London boroughs failed. And neither had any excuse for their ignorance. The fruits of the failures are now rearing their heads as the creatures of the anti-social landlords. . Nowhere more acutely than in Tower Hamlets, the inner London Borough notorious for being at the top of the “most deprived boroughs in England” league. Livingstone personally has had a poor level of consistency on housing. In the East End, Rachman-like slum landlords are now dominating the scene.
