Arrests in Bristol and Bath in relation to protests near AstraZeneca

Carol | 07.12.2011 08:45

Four people have been arrested this morning in a series of early morning police raids in connection with protests that have been taking place near the Astra Zeneca factory in Avlon which is near Bristol in England.

The arrests follow a series of demos outside of the Avlon factory over the past three months which despite being within the spirit of the Astra Zeneca injunction have been constantly harrased by both the police and Astra Zeneca security. The activists are all currently being held and we are working to find out at which police stations. Three properties still have police teams going through them despite the protests of those also living there who have no connection to SHAC or other AR work. Activists have been high lighting to the local community the low key presence of Astra Zeneca in their neighborhood and the links between AZ and animal abuse at HLS. Support has been rising with an increased number of protesters at each demo which has led to this political arrest.

BACKGROUND: The Avalon factory is the manufacturer of Rosuvastatin. A drug tested at HLS by rubbing it into the eyes of dogs. Rosuvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol which is a by-product of eating meat. A unnecessary drug, tested needlessly for a medical condition that can be cured with a diet change.

Until all are free
