Solidarity Weekender

Big weekend of events on in Bristol!

Whilst we can all sit back and smile now that Santa is free to continue his/her lifelong work of wealth redistribution (really? - Ed), the fact remains that the UK prison population continues to grow, and many others from recent protests and social conflicts face the threat of prison.

For the last seven months Bristol Defendant Solidarity (BDS) has been providing solidarity and practical support to those arrested during and after the Stokes Croft disturbances of April 2011. This weekend sees several events organised by or for BDS, as their work continues through December into 2012 with several major court cases pending and a number of people already imprisoned.

Events kick off on Saturday evening with a major benefit event at the Black Swan in Easton - see flyer for details. Organisers and hosts, Resistrance, supported by Kebele Sound, Next2Nothing, and friends, issued this call to all Bristol's dissenters and rebellious tribes: “Big shout out to the Bristol Old School. This is a Resistrance rallying cry to all radical ravers, partying punkers n serious skankers out there – lets have a political party!!! Recent events in Stokes Croft have persuaded us here at Resistrance HQ to drag our sorry arses out of retirement for a one-off riotous rave-up in aid of the Stresscos Rebels. We ain’t had it – we’re avin’ it!!”
Dj's are playing from 9pm, live bands start by 10pm.

Sunday sees BDS and Bristol ABC host the vegan cafe at Kebele social center from 5.30pm, and show the film 'Prison' at 6pm, followed by a Q&A plus discussion with its director/performer Charlie Ryder. See flyer below for details. There'll be a bucket collection for the 6 anti-fascists imprisoned over the summer.

On Monday commences the court case of Elijah Smith, aka James from the Bristol Edo Commissioners. He'll be up in the Crown Court (Small St, BS1) first thing, facing the joined charges from arrests in London & Bristol. You just cant keep the good man down. He welcomes support at the court from 9.30am onwards.

We'll see you there then!
