New Campaign to Make a Mad World Sane

Jake Lyron | 23.11.2011 12:55 | Culture | Health | Social Struggles | World

Philosopher Jake Lyron has launched a new campaign to make a mad world sane. His new viral ebook "The Shrink from Planet Zob: Psychiatry for a Mad World" explains the psychology driving the big global issues of our day - war, poverty, the environment, corporate greed, religion, animal rights, corrupt politics and distorted media. After analysing the problem, Lyron goes on to propose new solutions.

New Campaign Launched to Make a Mad World Sane.

British activist, philosopher and author Jake Lyron has launched a campaign to address the psychological problems which are leading to a dysfunctional world. Lyron has reached the conclusion that all of the biggest problems in the world (mental illness, poverty, the environment, war, religion, corporate greed, corrupt politics and animal rights) are generated by minds which are unhealthy. Lyron coins the phrase global catastrophic disorder (GCD) to describe the mental disorder which is threatening life on Earth.
Lyron said: “Most of us have thought at some time ‘the world has gone mad!’ and the truth is it really has. Mental disorders are by far the norm rather than the exception; we are all ill to varying degrees, and most of the time we deem ourselves to be perfectly mentally healthy. Often we are deluded, following irrational superstitious beliefs. But by far the most common and most destructive mental disorder is psychopathy – the disorder of the psychopath. Most people have preconceptions about psychopaths, imagining them to be dangerous axe-wielding murderers, but the shocking truth is that there is psychopathy in all of us. Psychopathy is the disorder of selfishness, and most of us are selfish to some degree. From my research it became clear that psychopathy is genetically programmed into us, so I use the term genetic psychopathy to distinguish this disorder from clinical psychopathy. It is the same thing as the selfish gene which Richard Dawkins famously wrote about. Genetic psychopathy generates most other mental illnesses, it causes wars and poverty, it threatens the environment and kills billions of animals every year. It leads to corrupt politics, drives corporate greed and creates false beliefs and religions.
“I have spent my life campaigning for a better world: I was an earth scientist, climbed for Greenpeace, attended plenty of demo’s and so on. But when progress was too slow for my liking, I took a step back to look at the campaign process. I found that much of the time the efforts of activists have been rejected by the population at large. People are often resistant to ethical truths. Resistance is a term used by psychotherapists to describe how patients avoid the therapeutic process. That resistance is exactly the same as people’s resistance to ethical truths on global issues, and is generated by people’s genetic psychopathy.”
Lyron not only identifies the problem, he is promoting a solution. He has written a campaign ebook The Shrink From Planet Zob: Psychiatry for a Mad World, which he calls ‘a self help book for the planet.’ The ebook, priced at £1-49 GBP, is available in formats for all ereaders, Kindles, iPods, iPads, iPhones, Android phones and computers from www.TheShrinkFromPlanetZob.com. Lyron is also creating an online therapy service where people can interact with therapists, in an effort to heal the GCD. The link to this service is in the book (www.DrZabsCouch.com). As well as that, Lyron has created an online community where people can experience ‘group therapy for the planet’, again the link to this is in the ebook, (www.TheBookOfMemes.com). Finally, through the book website, Lyron is raising money to make a film of the book following the crowd funding model.
Lyron’s self-help book for the planet mixes comprehensively researched factual content with a storyline of an alien psychiatrist who comes to Earth (Dr Zab from planet Zob). The book has been well received. Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE said of the book: “Lyron’s evidence is compelling and revelatory. The factual content will challenge the best of it, but when you need it most, the fictional thread will make you laugh out loud. An important book to take the world forward.”
The ebook is equivalent to 380 novel-sized pages, citing 286 references.
