Benefit For Antifascist Prisoners In Leeds

Leeds Anarchist Black Cross | 03.11.2011 16:09 | Anti-racism | Policing | Repression | Birmingham | Sheffield

A benefit for the six imprisoned UK antifascist prisoners on Saturday 12th November.

This month’s Moonstomp, the definitive West Yorkshire Ska & Reggae night, is a benefit for the six UK antifascist prisoners. With your favourite DJ’s playing Jamaican Ska, 2-Tone, 60’s & 70’s Reggae, 80’s R&B, Northern Soul, Motown, and more, Moonstomp/Absolute Beginners is always a great night. This Saturday’s event also features Manchester’s finest Ska infused band The Minx. Come along, have a great night, and help us raise some cash for six great lads banged-up for fighting fascism.
Saturday 12th November at TJ’s, Woodhouse Street, Leeds 6 (close to Hyde Park Corner), 9pm until Late. Only £5.

THE PRISONERS

Sean Cregan, Ravi Gill, Thomas Blak, Phil De Souza, Andy Baker, and Austen Jackson are antifascists who were fitted up earlier this year on conspiracy charges and sentenced to between 15 and 21 months in jail. A full account of the case can be found on the Leeds ABC website at:  http://leedsabc.org/?p=604

They were originally held in Wormwood Scrubs prison in London, but have all now been split-up and moved to separate jails in southern and central England. Thomas is Danish and despite having lived and worked in this country for 15 years, he is also facing the extra punishment of being deported. Austen has been denied early release on electronic tag and it is clear that having failed to fit-up the other 13 antifascists involved in the same case, the State are determined to punish the six they did manage to fit-up to the maximum extent.

Please send them letters of support at the addresses given below. Please send a stamped self-addressed envelope if you would like a reply. Advice on writing to prisoners can be found on the Leeds ABC website at:  http://leedsabc.org/?page_id=158

A solidarity fund has been set up to support the prisoners in jail and upon release. All donations, big and small, are very welcome. The fund is administered by Leeds ABC, a long-standing and reputable prisoner support organisation, and the fund will ONLY be used to support the prisoners directly. If you would like to contribute to the fund please send a cheque (made payable to ‘The Cable Street Society’) to Leeds ABC, 145-149 Cardigan Road, Leeds, LS6 1LJ. Details for bank transfers are:

The Cable Street Society
Sort Code 070093
Account number 33333334

We would like to thank the groups and individuals who have already contributed to the solidarity fund, including Anarchist Group Amsterdam , Antifa England, The Bollox (Amsterdam), Bristol ABC, Joe’s Garage (Amsterdam), Kate Sharpley Library, Moonstomp, Rebel Soul (Shambala Festival), West Yorkshire Solidarity Federation, , the Hereford Heckler crew who sold benefit T-shirts (see below) at the London Anarchist Bookfair, and Sabcat of course.

The Anarchist print co-op Sabcat have also produced two benefit T-shirts in support of the prisoners. They are printed on organic cotton, fair wear, carbon neutral, Earth Positive T-shirts and cost £14.95 including UK postage. Sabcat are donating their labour for free, so apart from the cost of the unprinted garment itself and the postage, all money raised goes to the antifascist prisoners support fund. To order a T-shirt check out the Sabcat website at  http://sabcat.com/. They will also be available to buy at the gig.
