Titnore Under Threat Again!!

Treelover | 01.11.2011 11:25 | Ecology | Free Spaces | Social Struggles | South Coast

Titnore Woods is again under threat of disappearing under 700+ houses...

Unbelievably, Worthing planning committee has reversed its previous decision and decided that the developers' revised plan can go ahead. This means that Titnore Woods is under threat again.

What a load of rubbish! Spread the word fast!

It's a shame but when money is involved I'm not surprised.

Thanks for all the offers of help, however there's a bit of a
misunderstanding.

Titnore woods themselves are not under direct threat; the development that
has been approved stops 15 metres from them and is separated by a fence. Of
course that won't stop pets and children getting into the woods neither will
it prevent the alien development destroying the setting of the South Downs
National Park - The South Downs National Park Authority raised no objection
to the development!!

Yes we would like to find some way of preventing this rape of the
countryside but there's no suitable trees or structures for a camp in the
fields the only other thing that's been mooted is an occupation of one or
more of the developers offices or show homes.

Why do you say,
"Of course that won't stop pets and children getting into the woods"

What is wrong with pets and children getting into the woods ? They are for everyone not just you

We protected them when others did not

Speaking as one of those who did so much to protect the woods when others could not be bothered I feel I do have some rights over who goes into them. Most locals could not be arsed to do anything with many claiming that housing for local people was more important so clearly they can't be trusted to protect the woodland so why should they have the benefit of it.

As for dogs, frankly I would be happy to see a Britain with no dogs because of the damage they do and mess they leave behind.

Treelover: "As for dogs, frankly I would be happy to see a Britain with no dogs because of the damage they do and mess they leave behind."

Yes, the damage caused by dog shit certainly dwarfs that caused by humans! lol.

But I agree, it would be better to have wild dogs (foxes, wolves, etc.) instead of the sickening abuse and shelters full of unwanted dogs from the scummy pet industry.

Mother nature has given you no rights what so ever to dictate who may benefit from her bounty. Besides property = theft. If you are claiming ownership of that land you are a thief, nature is to be enjoyed by all not an elitist few.

really?

treelover......you did a damn good job protectng the wood for many year but that does not gives you 'rights' over who or what goes there to enjoy them for what they are - a beautiful outside space. i dont wanna see houses built right next to it either but it aint because kids and dogs gonna play in them. everytime i went to titnore there were kids and dogs playing in the woods and quite often from the protest site. and as for saying you don't want any dogs in britain because of the mess they leave behind - don't be such a turd! ;)

really dissapointed that such an important thread has descended into such farcical trollism. there are many Titnorists who may have yet to hear about this corporate fascist play. can we leave these discussions for a pub garden please.
